"Last time this came up, you claimed the response was
mostly positive. Yet, the idea got put on the shelf
for a year. Doesn't seem like something you'd do with
an idea that has the support you claim that it does."

We have a lot of projects on the go and they all take time and
energy. This one needed some webwork and collating of information,
and I put it behind getting Rulebook, MEOW, AM, Palantir and other
work just due to prioritisation. Harlequin also took over the
Legends Licence recently so I assisted there along with losing a
member of staff we were short handed for a while.

As for claim it's mostly postive, yes it is so despite a vocal
minority I do intend to go ahead with a trial run and see what impact
this has on the game. One player has mentioned that he intends to
attack anyone with a higher rating than himself but other than that I
have had no negative comeback on how players will be affected by the
ratings overall.

Clint

Well, good thing I haven't sent orders for my 2 games
that run this week.

233:
NG, the food isn't coming.
Rangers, forget about that ScoChar I was going to do.
FP: I've changed my mind about joining your side. It
would be truly stupid to join one side or the other
while the issue is still in doubt. I've decided to
wait until the mid or end game to see which isde has
it locked up before I decide which side to join. That
way, I don't risk a loss that will screw up my
ranking.

DS of 233. I'm the Dun player you haven't been able
to get in touch with. I'd been planning on going FP,
but with the PRS going into effect, that would be
truly stupid. Fun and challenging, but stupid to risk
my ranking on a game not yet decided on the battle
field. To validate who I am, I know Din stole the RoW
from the Northmen last turn.

If the FP or DS want to make huge bribes and promisses
to ensure I'll get a 2000 VC score, I'll gladly accept
your grovelling at dshimel@hotmail.com.

17: Don't plan on the Corsairs makeing a decision for
a long time, and forget about all that earier talk
about "balance, fun, and challenege" being a
significant factor in my decision making process.

PRS is here! Time to play to the PRS instead of
playing to a fun and challenging game.

234: You guys are safe. We've been playing together
too long to worry about PRS in this game. PRS is now
what pick-up games are for.

Darrell,

You claim that the PRS will ruin the game because players will become
unscrupulous, yet you seem to be PLANNING on acting unscrupulous just to
prove your point. This is hardly the way to conduct a healthy debate on
a subject. Neither is repeating the same (unproven) arguments over and
over and over. Just because someone repeats their opinions doesn't make
them facts.

You just have to realize that people are going to disagree with you from
time to time, and you're not always going to get your way. It doesn't
mean anyone who dares to disagree with you is stupid or evil or even
intentionally antagonistic.

Healthy debate is one thing, and I actually enjoy reading other people's
opinions, even though I may not agree with them. This isn't healty
debate, though. This is just ridiculous.

Darrell -
you and I have known each other for a long time.

I know you have lots of reasons that are very thoughtful
as to why you don't like the idea of the PRS.

Why not ignore it? Please don't change your team-oriented style of
play (which is what makes MEPBM great). If you don't like it, ignore
it. Don't ruin your enjoyment of the game you've been playing the
past decade.

Personally, I agree with you that the old system of VCs encouraged
the bad Noldo player to hang out in the NW and do nothing. So what?
That's boring. If (s)he wants to do that and the FP can win anyway,
then we've overcome even that much more of a challenge. And if the
FP can't win with the silly Noldo being silly, well, perhaps
experience will modify behavior? Life goes on.

That is after all your major objection to the PRS - that it will
modify behavior. Winning & Losing will modify behavior even more.

I think it's interesting that Clint is experimenting with MEPBM. I
like BOFA and helped train 2 new players using that format. I'm in
my first GB and it's very cool (note that in GB, you won't be able to
take actions against people because of PRS. You won't know who's
playing what). Maybe the PRS will further invigorate and swell the
ranks of MEPBM players. That would be great. If it doesn't affect
anything, or if it causes reduction in the ranks, then Clint, being a
business person, will abandon it. That's the thing about
experimenting - sometimes the experiment works. Other times it
doesn't. So, please, give it a chance and please don't change your
style of play. I certainly am not going to change my style of play
away from being team oriented. I'm in each game to have my team
WIN. period. I'm happy to ship gold to nations that need it. I'm
happy to give MTs to nations under threat of losing capitals. etc.
Do those things help my or hurt my PRS? I have no clue whatsoever.
And I don't care.

So, chin up! Keep being a team player and let's get in a game
together.
cheers,
Dave

Darrell,

You claim that the PRS will ruin the game because
players will become
unscrupulous,

No. Because a few will return to playing for
something more than fun and challenge. I claim the
PRS will ruin the game because we'll again have to
deal with people picking nations based on ability to
score, neutrals riding the fence too long, selfish and
tentative play to max score, and the end game
backstabbing.

yet you seem to be PLANNING on acting
unscrupulous just to
prove your point.

I plan to try to get maximum scores. Why have a
ranking system if not to get maximum rank?

Healthy debate is one thing, and I actually enjoy
reading other people's
opinions, even though I may not agree with them.
This isn't healty

Mike Mulka

Right. Time for talk is over. It is now time to
demonstrate. FP of 233 have had a demonstration of
how damaging a system that rewards bad play can be.
Others will follow.
