Well firstly my apologies if I have annoyed anyone out there. It was
certainly not my intention to do so. I honestly believe that good discussion
helps the game enormously, getting to chat a lot helps as well.
Unfortunately some comments do annoy both players and GMs without that being
the intention - email can be a very unforgiving medium as mistakes are hard
to bring back, words mean different things to different players.
If you have a problem, advice, questions, or compliment it is often easier
to bring it up directly with me and then if not satisfied to raise it in
public as I have found that blood pressure can quite easily be raised on
BOTH sides of the keyboards. And with us all being human things can go
wrong.
I have tried to thank everyone who has personally commented upon the game
mechanics, so my apologies if I missed anyone (in particular to Mike as I
thought that I had replied but obviously not).
I don't always get the time to reply in full, and sometimes I might forget -
but I feel that being involved and keeping in touch, like this for example,
is good for the game and hopefully we can even address some of the issues
that are brought up here.
Don't forget that we only license the game - we have minimal input into the
changing of rulings etc.
I think that you are finding that we do try to help out, and do try to keep
in touch, and keep things friendly as best we can. I am aware that we don't
always succeed - but I do try.
Mistakes do happen, but we generally sort them out to everyone's
satisfaction - we have a lot less errors than a year ago I think you will
find, are much more knowledgable about the game, the players the foibles and
strengths, and generally are more with it. But the nature of the beast
called PBM means that things will continue to go wrong - regardless of what
we would all like.
So far I have like the comments on the SS and turn 1. I had already started
keeping back some of the turn 1 turns but shall explore that option more
fully. I am not sure how feasible it will be to implement but will give it
a go - but it is an experiment. I still feel that the best way is to
allocate a team captain and get them to liaise with us - and get them to
keep an eye on things - we run 25 games of ME at present and I don't think
we could do half as good a job as the players can in this. But this is only
my opinion, not a hard and fast rule (or any sort of ruling at all).
I hope this helps.
Clint
