greetings.
All those who read the subject title can tell that its not 'strictly' middle
earth. But this is more arthur stuff.
Geoffrey of Monmouth was the first populariser of Arthur.
The original material remembers 6th century conflict versus invading
Anglo-Saxons, but also insane internal wars amongst the British, from the
Borders area in the north, around the west and down to Cornwall. The Welsh
reckon that their records show one or two Arthurs in their geneology lists
of the period, other scholars place him in Somerset area, and there is a new
argument that says he was an elected war-leader in Nothumbria/Borders who
was very good at cavalry warfare which relied on mobility, secure rest
points for his horses and men in British enclaves in disputed territory, and
most of all he had to hit the Anglo-Saxon infantry at exactly the right
moment on territory favourable to cavalry charges. His probable tactic would
have been to watch enemy movements and hit them as they were fording rivers,
but before they could form up properly

p.s I would like to have a commander called arthur in G34 leading HC for my
harad. But I think that meeting all those huge SG armies will defeat the
purpose of trying to stomp on SG (thats just to make it middle earth
related)
I also wounldn't be happy watching him do one fight, and live
his remaining days with the rest of DS characters that the free are
kidnapping

Yes, and Bede mentions him very early too. My point was, that the
legend was FULLY established by Geoffrey of Monmouth, and
that all these
sources are before the 1178 date you mention.RD has been thumbing the text books too I see. But the date
you give is
too early for either of the Llewelyns. Any luck with 1178 RD?Good link here for anyone wanting to brush up on their Welsh History:
