Here's an idea to make automagic even (slightly) better . . . on the orders
page, how about finding a way to "flag" which characters are army commanders
and which characters are with armies (and possibly companies as well).

It could be as simple as a "*" next to their name if they are commanders
and a "+" if they are simply with an army. Could take it a step further
and identify WHO characters are travelling with. Let's say Aragol is in
Booboo's army.

Aragol (arago) +boobo

This could save some flipping back and forth between Excel and Acrobat to
double-check who's actually running the armies/companies and who is with
them. I have no idea if this would even be possible to implement since I
have no clue how to program excel files.

Russ

Well, the Company info and the 'characters with army' info isn't
available to harvest from the XML file.

As for the army commanders, I might be able to squeeze this info into
Automagic, (though I'm not certain how at this time), but you'd still
likely have to look back at your turn to determine such things as what
PC the army is at and it's armor/weapon commodities, what other armies
are there, fortifications of the enemy PC, who is with the army, etc.

I agree it might save some time flipping back and forth, but I don't
think it would really save very much time. You just need to have both
files open for so many things, I'm not sure it's worth it to try to
squeeze that info into Automagic. (Especially since I'm not certain how
to do it at the moment.)

I havent followed the automagic discussion earlier so please excuse my
possible ignorance.

Who is making the XML files? Wouldnt it be possible to get the map data
included in the XML files?

Since I don't think the XML guy is reading this....

Basically, each PDF gets read and parsed into an XML file. You can look at the file yourself, but basically it includes all your characters, all your armies, all your pop centers, and anything you can see on your map.

It is possible to put anything in the PDF into the XML file, it just hasn't been done yet. It would require percolating up that data through the various programs.

*** We're working on each bit as we need it for the AM and MEMapmaker file. As time goes on we'll add bits to the XML file for these two programs.
