That would be really cool. I know this post was started in jest, but has any thought ever been given to it? Or is it just not possible?

What’s the deal, Clint?

Chris G.

Yes, it has been asked many many times. (of DGE, Deft, and Harlequin)

The problem is, the people who run this game did not write the computer program that controls the game. For example, if you play a game with pre-aligned neutrals, you still have to change alligence on the opening turn. Because they can’t change the computer program.

I, too, think a First Age variant has uber-potential.

Who owns the code? What will it take to inspire them to make changes?

The source codes are owned by Peter Stassun and Bill Feild. While I don’t know for certain, I can speculate. I don’t think GSI will turn over the source codes to Harley. In part, I believe it is because they think that Harley will turn the game into something other than what it is.

GSI won’t release the code (they own it). We can do alterations to the house rules for games (eg no assassinations before turn 6, no One Ring victory that sort of thing) but we can’t amend the code. We can modify start-ups, characters, armies, pcs etc as appropriate as well.

Dragons - we could kill some off at game start for example. (We’ve never done it but probably could manage it).

With 1000 we can change the start-up map to reflect your location but it’s hard work to do that. We can sort of emulate 1650 but no dragons, different encounters, random artefacts are part of the “price” to pay for that flexibility. Last Alliance was such a game and it worked okay.
