Its getting rough when we are arguing over the actions of a
person that
never existed. I'm still surprised over that other message
about the yanks
taking over a german sub and getting the emigma machine. I
know the yanks
were the allies in WWII. They did attack german subs, the
emigma machine
wastaked by the allies. The allies did enter sinking subs to get certain
machinery (the ones who didn't get out in time got medals ifI remember
correctly), so the movie had to be true. All the evidence I
mention fits
themovie.
RD: I hope you are joking.
yes. Several years ago I developed a likeness for saying completly true
statement which end up being a complete lie. It helps me understand the
world.
If you believe everything the
Yanks put in films
your view of history will be seriously distorted. Britain
declared war on
Nazi Germany in 1939. It was Brits who recovered the enigma
machine, but
more importantly it was the Poles who cracked the code and
gave it to the
Brits, both long before the USA commenced hostilities against
Germany in
1942.
I agree with that. The help that the poles gave was often overlooked. Most
people think that since the country got overrun so easily it was pretty
useless in the war, but the poles that fought after the war (either as
pilots or as scientists like the ones mentioned above) served their country
very well.
We may not have been able to win WWII without the Yanks but they
didn't do it single-handed like their propaganda would have everyone
believe. I understand the Aussies made a useful contribution too!
We however grovelled to the yanks too much, and I don't think we were very
independent.
> Thorin gave the
>mithril armour to Bilbo as the first instalment of payment for his
>services.I was agreeing with everything you said up to this stage. I didn't
remember
it was a first instalment,
RD: 'Mr Baggins!' he (Thorin) cried. 'Here is the first
payment of your
reward! Cast off your old coat and put this on!'
With that he (Thorin) put on Bilbo a small coat of mail... of
silver-steel, which the elves call mithril.
The Hobbit, Unwin paperback edition, p227.
I stand corrected.
RD: In the Hobbit, Dain II Ironfoot, successor to Thorin after
the battle,
was also wiser and more generous, and told Bilbo to take what
he wanted from
the treasure-hoard. I believe Bilbo took 'only' a couple of
saddle-bags of
gold but more importantly everybody (well all the good guys at
least) lived
happily ever after... until Tolkien stirred it all up again by
writing Lord
of the RIngs!
dolt. I completly forgot about that.
