Are games taking longer to fill than a couple/few years ago?
Are there more players registered and active?
Are there more or less games running then a couple/few years ago?
Had someone address concerns re: slower starting games amongst others, and I was wondering if BOFA and UW, for example, are cutting into the original games. I wonder less and know more that Gunboat certainly siphons off a few extra participants that would otherwise be signing up for Indie games.
Besides the “wish list” thread, which is heavily into changing the Program, who has some ideas about changing the service offerings? Will new modules improve the gaming experience as a whole or further water down the game? (longer waits to start, less diversity amongst players as smaller segments stick to A or B, etc). What should be the focus for ME Games - New pdf’s (rules, results) or interactive web based applications?
For the record, I see UW and BOFA as slowing things down. 1650 Indie games should be the “training” sites, frankly. I have no time for improved pdf’s as we have a Java based system almost ready for release that should be modifiable to run as an interactive web server based app one day. I also suspect that offering more 1 week games might be more acceptable in todays market than may have been the feeling upon Harlequin’s takeover a number of years ago.
Addict huh – am up to 7 games now !! Just don’t tell my Wife – she will go through the roof !!
Tell you one thing – When was doing one or two games only and those finished – found I was mostly playing with the same people in any new games I started as I guess they wanted new games also – now that I just started all these new games , I am coming across new players and some Old players from the past who I haven’t played with/against in a long time and find it refreshing !!
Even had Clint ask our group of 4 ( I play one game of freeps and one game of evils with these 3 others ) if we could pick opposite side or go into next game as if we started with the other players it was gonna be like a grudge game as we all played together before !!
So basically what I found out is – when a game finishes , you will most likely be playing with those same set of people as they are all or most asking for another game !!
Halex13 – now this reminds me – now that am retired – are we gonna get that old tem together and do a grudge game – told you guys I could join after I retired as I didn’t want to hinder you guys with working OT all the time !!
Generally if you guys email me with a Grudge team I can find you opposition, or at least advertise it. It’s the best way as other players get to see it.
Games are around the same length of time to fill (I checked this recently). 8-10 weeks for a normal 1650 seems to the standard for example. 2950 and 1000 are slower. Grudge games are generally quicker (as long as they are not weird variants). More players are playing Grudge games proportionally though so you’ll see that impact on the normal games.
With normal games you can sometimes end up with players you played with before, with grudge games that doesn’t seem to happen though.
There’s new products, Bofa and UW for example as well as some GB games. (I’m wondering about a smaller GB 2950 game for example, and brought up the idea of a SK v NK with large nations [1v1] with Sam the other day - his head exploded).
Hi there Brad,
personally I believe that the “hype” initiated by the movies is defenately over!
On one hand this is good 'cause the quality of the “indie-games” wasn’t acceptabel any longer, on the other hand it will take a longer time to fill the games.-
Looking on the veterans who throwed the towel … well most of them aren’t students any longer, job and family takes it’s time.
Untold War, another turn-limited popcorn style MEPBM game that I believe siphons players off from “real” games… The website should have something about it.
