when do bankrupt nation armies go poof?

Do people have an opinion (or even better, factual data) regarding when armies go poof after a nation goes bankrupt? Is it the same turn that the troops are not fully paid (i.e. the turn of bankruptcy). Or the turn after? or a more random result say 0-3 turns?

David, they ‘go away’ when their food is exhasted. So an army of 900 with one food in the baggage train, at a friendly town, will last ‘forever’.
