I think it is an excellent idea.

Allows for sharing a bit more intel and a bit more of a plan for those that like some coordinating.

Okay so one vote each way. What I find is that players truncate their messages to make them fit 30 words.

I also want to encourage more players using it.

My vote is to increase the limit so long as it doesn’t cause problems for the moderator.

Why stop the diplos? I think they add a little to the game, no info can be boring especially for nations such as 3/7 combo etc that have limited access to Mages/Palantirs.

There's still an enormous amount of fog of war! And miscommunication... I'll tell you about one game when it's over to do with an attack!

Clint

For me, part of the fun of gunboat games is the increase in the “fog of war”. I’m playing a gunboat game at the moment that has no diplos and I’m enjoying it more than the games with diplos.

Maybe I’m just sociopathic.

Why stop the diplos? I think they add a little
to the game, no info can be boring especially for
nations such as 3/7 combo etc that have limited access to Mages/Palantirs.

No - some of us have a life and don’t memorise every location within Middle earth. Easier just to ignore those cries for help when I have no idea where my fellow player is having his grand party.

I guess that’s not a vote against, just more of a plea for players to be clear and specific in their missives. Us dinosaurs just amble along, sometimes needing to be led by the nose and/or pointed in the right direction. In fact, if you treat all your fellow players as idiots you probably won’t be too far wrong!

Sorry to those of you who are totally on the ball - maybe it’s just my team every time. Or maybe, even worse, it might just be me who’s the dufus.

My $0.02:

  • Visual reminder on the turn sheet when it is time to send a diplo.

  • Automatic email reminder for diplos before turns are due.

  • Diplo send support baked into joverseer (maybe joverseer can consume a reminder in the turn xml and display it).

I don’t actually care about the word limit, we’ll get our message across in creative ways if we have to under the limit. If there is a miscommunication, that’s the way it goes (and given communication technology of the time period, very “realistic”*).

  • Yes I used the word “realistic” to describe a game where magicians get eaten by dragons.

I'd like to see an email reminder go out the day before the turn runs (for the turns that allow diplos) reminding everyone about a diplo. I think you'd see a lot more communication as a result of that, then just increasing the word limit.

I would vote for the higher limit.

players truncate their messages to make them fit 30 words.

My $0.02:
- Visual reminder on the turn sheet when it is time to send a diplo.
- Automatic email reminder for diplos before turns are due.
- Diplo send support baked into joverseer (maybe joverseer can consume a reminder in the turn xml and display it).

I don't actually care about the word limit, we'll get our message across in creative ways if we have to under the limit. If there is a miscommunication, that's the way it goes (and given communication technology of the time period, very "realistic"*).

* Yes I used the word "realistic" to describe a game where magicians get eaten by dragons.
