RD: I just want to say, I am bitterly disappointed with the
performance of
the Brit team(s). We are not as bad as these stats show. The game
I was in
included one guy who'd stopped playing ME but was dragged back in
and his
reluctance showed. That wasn't the only reason we lost but it sure
as hell
didn't help.
The yanks have been playing ME a lot longer than the rest of the
world, so
they have the advantage of the most collective experience. That
means that
anybody who plays them in a competitive game needs players who are
not only
experienced but have the DESIRE to WIN.
Are there any Brit players out there who have these qualities?
Maybe it's a
national trait that we don't play to win, we play for fun. We
invent games
like football (soccer to the rest of the world), rugby, cricket
etc. The
countries we teach these games to, push the rules to the logical
limits and
BEAT us! They don't understand that the object of a game is not to
win, it
is to have fun!
If there are any Brits out there for whom having fun is NOT enough,
who
really WANT to show that they are as good if not better than the
rest of the
world, let's hear from you!
Don't expect a second clarion call - if this doesn't rouse you to
volunteer
for a serious challenge, carry on playing for fun - and losing
against the
serious players.
Richard.
Wow, that is one thing I would not want to brag about. Inventing
a game and then losing to your students. Yeah the invention of
soccer, one of the few games in the world that can go on for hours
without anyone scoring, so enjoyable to watch, yawn wake me up when
the coffee and chickory is done brewing. Yes that is right coffee
and chickory, I am a yank, and from what this side of the so
called "pond" thinks-- Why do something if you are not going to do it
right? I have not been playing Mepbm for such a seriously long
period of time that I could be considered a grizzled vet, but I have
noticed that the teaching circles of our Euroean counterparts suck.
Where do you guys learn teamplay from, watching WWI movies?!?! You
are supposed to show and teach your teammates that LI suck no matter
what terrain they are in, that M@arms are not worth the ink on the
PDf file printed up. And that building a nation does include
offensive military action within the first 10 turns of the game. I
have noticed that many new European players have never been given the
time of day by their teammates showing them the mistakes of reading
the rulebook as though it was the bible. Come on, RD, making
comments like I only play the game for fun is the same as saying "I
like getting kicked in the testicles repeatedly throughout the day
because it is fun" NO one plays to lose, they play to "WIN" or at
least make an attempt at it and try to have fun in the process. Why
do something if you know there is no hope at winning. This is not
real life where you have to do something whether you like it or not,
whether it is fun or not, whether you have a prayer of winning or
not. This is a game, yes you can have fun, but you shouldn't be play
or pay to play, just to have someone kick you in the Testicles
repeatedly. You should at least make an attempt to kick him or her
back and therefore show that you can be a competant palyer also and
still have some fun.
Brian,
Winning is just as much fun as losing and sometimes better.
