I could fairly trivialy set up a mailing list to serve the same purpose on a personal machine with a full-time internet connection, and I'd imagine there's at least some other techies playing with a similar ability.
Does it *have* to be through some kind of commercial provider?

I thought about this when I sent my reply, and I know firsthand that it
can be done fairly easily. My main concern is the inherent instability
of such a setup. What happens if your provider decides to shut down your server? What if you stop playing ME and don't want to run it anymore? Heck, what if you move and have to take the server down for a couple of days?
I understand that ME is not mission-critical in any sense of the word, and if Yahoo is going to offer unreasonable rates, we should explore this possibility. If, however, Yahoo is willing to charge a reasonable rate, I think a stable, known, already running commercial service is our best bet.

Thing is, some of us use the web access to the group. If it goes email
only, I for one will not resubscribe. I don't want my email flooded by
the 5-6 different, some high traffic, Yahoo groups I have. I have
enough dealing with the spam-mail and work mail I get, and the games
which has direct email communications (4 games).
I also only use the web access to the mepbm group. There's is no way
that I would want so much mail coming direct to my hard-disk. It's
must easier as I can simply select the messages that I want and thus
avoid all of the off-topic trash-mails like the ones about the Euro
and stuff....
I also would not resubscribe to the list if it goes email only.
