Character-naming question

When nations have the special ability of naming 40-points characters
(EG. Cardolan 40-Commanders, Duns 40 Agents etc.), can a 30
point-character name a 40 point character?
Or does it require a 40pt character in the given skill?

Hope someone can give me answer

-Tommy

Nope - you need to be rank 40+ to get a 40 rank character if you have the
special ability. If not you name at 30 (if 30+rank).

Requires a 40 pointer to name a 40 pointer.

If you name a commander using a C35, the new character
will be a C35... the character you name comes in at
the rank of the character naming him. On the same
lines, if you use less than a C30, that's what it'll
come in as (a C20 will name a C20).

Nope.

Yup.

Only way to do it is with a character of the appropriate skill with at
least 40 rank. As I mentioned a while back, certain nations are lacking
in said characters, making their SNA virtually useless until later on.

Okay,

has anyone ever, ever found the freekin' One Ring? I
was reading the artefact list and the description of
the ring - how can a character be innocuous? Does
this mean calling your character PeeWee? Or does this
mean that a hobbit army will automatically take the
ring and head to Mordor ?!

Is it all just a whiff?

He got it to Barad Dur and dropped it the turn after....

Northmen have intrinsic shortcomings that really should be addressed
as the #1 priority for changing the 1650 scenario at least...but,
what exactly does Arthedain do with the 40pt mage SNA...??? South
Gondor at least can use it if they like.....

I agree its a tideous task to train a M10 to 40. But from 30 to 40 early and
then 40 to 50 is ok in the mid to end game can be usefull (not in every game
i know but it still comes handy once in a while).

I haven't a wit regarding Finding the ring, but I have always been

While I have never personally located the One Ring, it has been found in
games I've played - invariably by the other team :frowning: - but has not been
successfully used in those games

Once upon a time I had a copy of 'Whispers of the Wood' which mentioned
a game which did end with the Ring; IIRC there was a Harly game ended by
the Ring a few months back. But it's a rare event.

Details on the Ring's powers are sketchy, but apparently it gives a high
Stealth bonus. Reportedly more powerful characters are more likely to
drop the Ring; ergo an 'innocuous' character would be one with
relatively low skill ranks.

Just curious, how far away from the Crack of Doom were

Does it take an Einstein to find it, and a Gilligan to

bad luck with 302, having had it twice, do you know what powers it

doing absolutley nothing for ya (besides being a pain to hang onto).

Actually won the game with the ring once.
Freeps helpfully found it with a VERY powerfuul mage, we killed him and I
picked it up (as Adunaphel), gave it to Sauron, and darkness reigned
