It’s true that future games could be awkward if you found yourself on the same side as a person who had deceived you, but deception does (imo) play a large role in these games, so why tip your hand at all?
Like I said though, if you’re really that anxious to talk to people from your allegiance before seeing who’s REALLY on your side, start a thread, group, etc. and discuss.
QUOTE=klub;67189]At first glance there’s a nice split of DS and FP across the map with most nations bordering an enemy and few isolated ones that look in trouble from the start, so I think Rob did a good job!

Yes, I agree that the nations are balanced out very well, and that Rob did a great job arranging them.
Yet there are undoubtedly some areas which everyone can see are a little ‘weaker’ in comparison to others.
Regardless, I hope the game will last many turns through skillful play, and not because orders keep failing (like in the creating of camps or with spells! lol).

“Automatic” does not guarantee a successfully executed order, only that those orders are not dependent upon a numerical skill check; they can still fail if the prerequisites have not been met. Example: Name new character is “automatic”, but if you do not have sufficient gold in the treasury the order will fail.
Games should have a DEADLINE for submitting setups (just like for turns), after notification has been received (two weeks should be MORE than adequate). For every day past the deadline, the late nation has 2k gold deducted from their starting treasury!
Perhaps instead of the penalty I suggested above, those who turned in their setups BEFORE the deadline would then be eligible for a 5k gold lottery, with the winner having the bonus added to their treasury.
It’s going to be a good game. All the frustration built up by the wait will just explode out in a frenzy of heavy cavalry, killer agents and challenges. I predict 10 dead characters and two burnt out capitals by turn 2 with one nation going bankrupt due to military build up by turn 3. By turn 4 the neutrals, unable to keep to the sidelines, will have joined the fray. There’ll be Smoke on the Anduin, Mordor will see giant armies worthy of the first turns of 1650, great fleets will duke it out on the high seas, fortunes will be made and lost equally fast on the market, the Misty Mountains will be renamed the Great Pile of Bodies and the South will burn.
