Game 81 Grudge Begins

Ivory Tower was named after a Halo 2 Multiplayer map. Now see if you can find all the others

Quiet one landed on another one of my thousand camps this turn; might cause my 5 page list of population centers to become 4 pages?

Luck or no, we took a healthy shot at your little slimball Boaco. Dangerous because he has ā€œthe Luck geneā€. Truthfully, if I play the CL next, I would much rather have all my agents get the ā€œLuck geneā€ than anything else.

What does the Drglord want me to do to his capital? I was thinking Iā€™d just raze it, but maybe a good home for my southern dwarves who lost their homes in the last couple turns. But Dwarves in the forest? ECKK!!!

Question for you: What formula do you use to threaten PCs? You guys are the best Iā€™ve seen at it, or maybe the luckiest, but I think you must have a good formula. If you are thinking it, youā€™re right, Iā€™m considering threatening the Dragonlordā€™s capital. But I figure you guys think it is mop up time, so why not throw us a bone?

Dave

We do not have a special formula, but use the guidelines descriped in the MOS article on Bobbins:
#of troops= 100 or fraction e.g. 2000 troops trying to Threat a MT=80%
+Command rank including arties.
Subtract 20 per level fortification another 20 if cap. and the PCā€™s current loyalty.
The above is only the ā€œlastā€ step as the commander must be able to pull of a hard order. (a 30 commander can not Threat a camp even though he might seemingly have an above 100% chance. 60+ in command rank is usually sufficient.
Also it seems that caps might be harder to Threat than just the 20% substraction.
But have not been participating in many cap-threats, as the team would normally go for a more secure capture or destroy if possible.
Also it seems that having a low natural command rank lessen your chances of succes even if the rank is boosted with lots of arties (e.g. Miruimor in our current game).

Simon

Thanks Simon!

Iā€™ve only seen one capital successfully threatened away, happened to be the DW capital Moria even. Gothmog (100 Command) with 100 Command artys or a 200 command rank. That was over 10 years ago. We are using that formula, but we probably didnā€™t consider the ā€œhard orderā€ step above.

Our meddle is being tested in this game, you guys are really pushing us to be better players and a better team.

Dave

Dul Goldur is mine. Your curse squad narrowly missed, and my Warlord yet lives. You destroyed Sesame Street so my kids are very upset!

Arfanhilā€™s amazing luck is over, hopefully so is his capital, {finally}ā€¦

Only have a few turns to view yet, but so far everything is ok.

Dave
Dwarf

Honoured Dwarves and comrades in arms

The shorties may have had a really fine turn but so did my highly skilled agents, masters of silently arranged accidents. One of them had to deal with two guards to carry out his very succesful and rewarding mission. RĆÆng Ćøf WĆÆnd is now in the right hand and it will be used by an expirienced left one.

Havent seen many turns, but Im terrible satisfied with my own - muhahahaha.

Loke:D:D:D

Nothing quite like the Cloudlord taxā€¦ Such is life for the Freeps. Havenā€™t seen the SE turn yet.

Dave
Dwarf

Just heard from our Drag Lord, looking great in skirt and blouse, he was quite happy with his turn; his taxbase increased, oh and he lost his capital, but you know all about that. We win some and lose less.

Loke:D:D:D

Iā€™m sure that castle at Dul Goldur was expensive and he is probably happier with me footing that bill. A couple un-fortified towns should be a better tax base for him I would think, unless you guys gave him a summer home in Mordor too? But tell him ā€œYouā€™re Welcomeā€ for saving him some expense on paying for that castle, glad I could help.

So which of the big three screwed up the curse order? Murazor? Urazhil? Blondeboy? Which one allowed my Dwarf commander to escape live for the 2nd time this game?

Dave
Dwarf

Its getting better and better, this single assass mentioned above also freed Bolvag and maybe some 1 or 2 lesser chars - hehe.

Have you seen NmĀ“s and the 2 Gondors turns?

Loke:D:D:D

Missing NG, Duns and SE right now. Probably due to hurricane Dennisā€™s landfall, they are right in his way.

From what I have seen, nothing unexpected except for you gaining the ROW. To understand the incredible luck you had, you evaded 2 84-level scouts for characters, 2 pretty good guards, then the roll to get it. Havenā€™t seen the turn yet, but a fairly impressive show of oddsā€¦

Dave
Dwarf

Matter of fact, everything you had evaded 2 84-level scouts at 2715.

Told ya, he is a pro.

Loke:D:D:D

Dear Dwarfwit

luck or not. you freeps lost apx 10-12 chars and 4 mts and some other stuff while Dol Guldur went your way along with Arfanhil.
Of course Dragon Lord can get a MT any time in Mordor, but he hasnt yet and I think that 2715 is the biggest thing your team will get in this game so enjoy it while you can. SG, NG, Corsairs has lost the south, northmen, dwarfs and eothraim has abandoned the far east. Woody are alone in northern mirkwood, what a silly challenge btw. And your progress in the Angmar regionā€¦ we wont get into that  And do tell NG that he ā€œperhapsā€ has named his last new character. :stuck_out_tongue:

Blondie

Me a bit confuzed, all those level 84 scouts, in fact four of them. Are they 42 rank agents double scouting, if thats the case it may be adviseable to improve their skills and later harvest the wealth of information gathered by them. I guess you know about the ā€œagent-paradoxā€ the better they are the harder they are to spot - being autoscouted is their achilles heel.

Please, when guarding your precious arties, use really good guards. In g86 I was surprised about seeing 2x ~90 (same hex and turn) rank duns getting slapped on the wrist leaving them more dead than alive (less than 10 healt left in each of them).

Be afraid - very afraid

Snickering Loke:D:D:D

nb. Thelor owes one to his old pal Murazor

330 CstCjSp 506 thelĆ³

were the order and not thelo. thats pretty harsh to us aint it?

Hi Dave

Just saw witchys turn, he is very upset about this ā€œtypoā€ and has mailed Cardiff to have it sorted out. Maybe this little technical error will be corrected and ThelĆ³r will suddenly remember that he died some days ago.

Silly little challenges start to happen when we throw some caution to the wind. It was even odds, so not really that silly.

Errors happen. Poor Witchy. You would think with your confidence so high about winning this game, it wouldnā€™t be that big of a deal. Matter of fact, maybe you would think you guys would throw us a bone. If Thelor dies, my army still sits ready to crush the Doglordā€™s little army, and move forward, I was ready for Thelorā€™s loss anyway.

Not sure on the agent thing? They were 2 42 agent double scouts there last turn. As for the guards, rookie agents have to start somewhere, you would assume 2 40ish agents could guard one little ring.

Still waiting on 3 of our turns, they happen to be the turns you guys are focusing on in the forum. I think hurricane Dennis has prevented our teammates in posting them.

Just a side note, when you are kicking someones butt in a game regardless of platform, it is best to show some grace and compassion. We know the truth as well as you do. You guys have played a fantastic game and schooled us well.

Hi Dave

Training agents in potential hotspots is not what I would consider safe. My limited expirience tells me that guards really suck against assassins, guarding against theft has better chances of success. Me thinks the Sinda is lucky not to have two corpses instead of wounded nitty agents.

Dont know if this is one of those bones you keep talking about (why worry about bones when you are supplied with several complete skeletons every turn), anyway I enjoy this game, the banter and Im still learning a little trick or two.

Holger/Loke:D:D:D

About the challenge. Woody would have won the battle having apx 20%more troops, but instead Sinda lost a town and more of your popcenters are threatened. Thats the silly part IMO.

About scouts.
I think theres some aspects of agent activity which not so balanced.
When it comes to scochar we/I prefer to use 50+ or better 60+ agent with double scouting. Iā€™ve too often seen 80+ agents with normal scouting abilities(eg cloud lord and sinda agents) miss characters with stealth. Army commanders often fail to come upon scochars so usually its good to do a scohex to get the name of a possible army commander.
