Gunboat Strategies

Well let me give you a tip and ME can gardy deny it.

When you game with the guy who came up with the concept every week its hard to deny the fact this was his concept and I suggest you go hide in the shadows when you mock his concept.

Your lucky to do not play against him or me as your butt would be toast.

I see you dont know me that well I dont really care to spellcheck anything and I dont regard it as foolish.

Its a tactic some get distracted with and well need I say anymore.

But I for one never turn down a challange so name you game of 1650 and will gladly kick your butt as all those who have gone before.

Not know for humility either.

I await to see you across the battlefield.

Not up for a bit of one on one are you?

Vandal

One-on-one? You mean man-to-boy, you juvenile delinquent? I hide in no shadows and I mock those whom I deem worthy of mockery – such as, those so ignorant as to believe that sloppy misspellings are not foolish.

Your hide is so thin, if I sneezed near you, I would tear a hole in it. I bet you are the best ME gamer ever – and the biggest loser in life one would ever want the misery of experiencing.

Run along now, little vandal, I think your mother needs to wipe your nose and paddle your rear end.

Baruk

Yes I do mean man to boy, and boy you need to grow up and wash out your mouth, for I see you posses few of the finer things it life.

Now alas my mother has passed away but I suffer not those who take her name in such profanity so name the time and place and face me like the runt you are.

or go hide in the shadows or act like the cur you seem to be

Oh so now I see we have a wager how much money you want to put up or shut up?

My money says you act like you talk and your bet is trash.

I have eaten betetr players than you and not noticed it

Still when I talk about the game from the concept of its designer, one does have to sink to your level

Vandal

As a matter of fact I was meeting with a whole bunch of ME players of old over last weekend and the comment was your exactly the type of player who should not be playing this game but hey its not my game.

So go ahead and try and kick my butt, if you think you can, but I note you seem to have given the game away on what you play is that wise and withing the rules?

Vandal

Hey, vandal! Even though I am already filled with contempt for you, your one-on-one challenge intrigues me. I may be interested; but it would have to be Gunboat and it would have to conform to the following rules.

  1. It must consist of 12 players, as is the norm for Gunboat games (I am not about to pay for 12 nations each turn).
  2. Neither you nor I could hand-pick our allies. Once we got 10 others committed to playing, ME Games would randomly assign them to the Free or DS allegiance.
  3. All players, including you and me, would be expected to express their nation-pair preferences; but each player, including you and me, would need to submit a first, second and third choice preference for both the Free and the DS allegiances.
  4. You and I would be assigned randomly by ME Games to the Free or the DS allegiance with the condition that we obviously must assigned to opposing allegiances.
  5. No diplos. No communication of any sort among allies.

Are you up for that challenge, little vandal?

Baruk

But if you want to carry on this arguement set up a forum and we can have a private fight as long as you like and leave this forum alone

Vandal

How have I “given the game away” on what nations I play? I have given no such indication.

Oh and little vandal, if you do not tone down the stridency of your comments, I may get the impression that you mean to challenge me to more than a game of ME. If so, you may find that I can paddle your pathetic little rear end quite a bit more violently than your mother (RIP) ever did.

As for your boast that you “have eaten betetr players than” I “and not noticed it,” you have no idea how good a player I am. To make such statements is the very definition of an ignorant braggart. And I’m getting the distinct impression that you are nothing more than an ignorant braggart.

Baruk

Oh my my such bravado for one so weak he dares to think he can threaten me, of course I was talking in game face to face one on one as Itend to do.

but I never run so name your time and place and I will accept your idle threats.

So as to be fair nuetral venue half way between the two of us?

As regards your feeble attempts to go hide in the mists of others no I am talking one on one where you cannot hide from me and to the victor always the spolis.

If you think you can beat me dream on but hey still waijtng for the wager you promised.

Are your wagers as your threats idle and hollow?

Vandal

I never wagered $200.00 per month, which would be the cost of operating 12 nations alone. I accepted the challenge you made in a manner that is financially reasonable for all parties. If you reject it, what is your counter-proposal?

A neutral venue to meet half-way between the two of us? I suspect you live somewhere in Europe. If I’m right, that would place our meeting somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. I live in the USA, the MidWest region. I’d be happy to meet you face-to-face to teach you some manners.

Baruk

Note I have already won the last game of one to one played and will wager that money and I did offer the sum of 200,000 dollars as a side wager, knocked down to the cost of the game but the welcher renaged on the deal.

Guess who won?

Well I am in LA later in the year so well you will have your wish

Vandal

I have no idea what you are trying to say. I will play you under the conditions I stipulated. I will not wager $200,000 nor do I think any responsible or mature person would do so. Apparently that’s just another one of those differences between Americans and what remains of the once-proud European civilization.

As for meeting face-to-face, I promised to tone it down. I have no pressing desire to teach others their manners through corporal punishment. So I suggest we both drop that talk. I apologize for introducing it. And that apology should be enough for you to drop it. I am quite capable of taking care of myself – and of taking care of bullies who enjoy shoving other people around. But this forum and this game is not about that. So, I repeat, I apologize for introducing that element into the discussion.

Baruk

Well the wager is the same as the last one loser pays for the game.

You win I pay the money for your game, and the same applies the other way.

I will deposite the money for 20 turns into my account to cover it, as I expect will you, done?

You will be

Vandal

Not done. A deposit worth twenty turns would amount to approximately $4000.00 for the type of challenge you propose. I decline.

But I renew my counter-challenge, the conditions of which were laid out above. If that’s not good enough for you, then I’ll just drop the entire discussion.

By the way, LA is a long way from the MidWest – so we’d still have some trouble meeting on neutral ground. But since it appears we’re both of a mind to drop that sort of talk, I’ll not mention it again.

Baruk, the “fresh fish”

Hey

I live in the UK you wanted it I never run its a long haul but hey dont ever think to threaten me again I dont take to well to it.

As regards the game well forget the side wager just play me.

I dont like to hide behind anyone and I assure you you are mine.

You win I give up the game I win you can get of my back

Now is that fair?

Dont run from me I have hunted some players for 10 years so far, some of them still play here so go ask them.

Vandal

Vandal, you live in the UK, you say? Well, you are clearly not a native English speaker. In any case, I assure you I do not run from a challenge. But neither will I pay out the sort of dollars needed for the ME challenge you have proposed. I have no doubt you are the better ME player. My counter-challenge still stands, if you wish to accept it.

As for the other matter of meeting face-to-face to settle our differences, I would be happy to oblige you if you wish to pursue it. But let’s take that discussion off-line. Send me a private email message through this forum if you are serious. I cannot go to the UK; but if you can come here, I will, I am certain, enjoy our time together.

As for running from you, I’m not going anywhere.

Baruk

But I am indeed native born, how wrong can you keep being?

But you forget was it not you who openly threatened me with harm? I only say do it if you can but assure you it will not be as easy as you think.

Mail me at f_redmond@hotmail.com I will come over to LA later in the year to give you that shot.

As regards who is the better player does it really matter it should be a game with a hard edge not a hard edge to a game.

Threaten me all you like in the game, its a game and what else are charatcers for but to play such things out.

But since you dont know its limits well it is time ssomeone stood up and showed you what they are and thats me.

Hey I am so determined to kick your butt how about you win I pay your turns and I win you go off and sit in the corner.

Gives you an edge to the win?

Come on face me dont wimp out on me for when I put my mind to it I can be quite good, though id play around in normal games far to much.

If you dont want to face me just say so, drop the idea you know you will kill me and get on with your life.

If not you know were to find me.

Vandal

Little vandal, you obviously suffer from one or more mental disablities.

I’ll try to make this as clear as I can in light of your extraordinarily limited intellectual capacities.

  1. I never contended that I was a better ME player than you – or even as good as you (or anyone else for that matter). All I ever contended was that I can hold my own in a game that includes more experienced players. What “hold my own” means is that I would not make a bunch of silly errors and be eliminated by turn 8 or fail to give adequate support to my allies as a consequence.

  2. My earlier challenge proposal (for a Gunboat game with allies) stands if you ever choose to accept it.

  3. Here’s another ME challenge for you. If you want a pure one-on-one, then you pay for all my turns as well as your own. If you win, I pay homage to you publicly on this forum and change my forum username to Vandal’s Slave. If I win, you must promise to try to communicate in a more polite and friendly manner to all players, both veterans and newer players.

  4. No more talk of a face-to-face meeting on this forum. Take it off-line. You can email me with a private message, as I stated earlier, if you wish to pursue it. This forum is not the appropriate place to discuss that matter. I already apologized for bringing it up here. I will be happy to discuss it with you off-line.

You say you are a native born Englishman? I find that hard to believe, given your obvious trouble expressing yourself in English. Well, perhaps the mental disabilities that give you such an unappealing personality also limit your language skills. If so, you have my sympathy, little vandal. You are truly to be pitied: so successful in ME games, so miserable a failure in life. 'Tis truly sad.

Baruk

I’m not the only one there Johnny “I didnt do my 325 order and bought myself into bankruptcy!”

Anyway, the point is with the GB games is that sometimes you need to do some outrageous things to stay alive, but for the most part, if you are naming alot of agents with the FK then you’ll be in trouble. I think with the majority of the pairings you can usually have one nation that tends towards an army nation and another that can concentrate on characters once the initial battles are done with. In that case you try to use the character support from nation A with the army support of nation B

For example, in the new 1650 pairings…the Dog Lord fields armies, the BS works on curses to cover the Dog armies and weapons for the Dog commanders…or…the Witch King fights the wars up north and the Dark Lt’s provide emmi support to try and infoth the Cardi pops, plant camps for the WK to find dragons etc. (I generally play DS so your mileage may vary as the FP!)

-Fletch

Are these not the correct pairings? I am looking into Gunboat to play next and I’m still, still fuzzy about the not acting against characters you don’t know part…if someone can explain it to me again I’d appreciate that.

The pairings I had were:

Third Age, circa 1650 Gunboat nation duos:
Free People
4/22 Arthedain/Harad
6/23 N Gondor/Dunland
7/1 S Gondor/Woodmen
8/2 Dwarves/Northmen
9/5 Sindar/Cardolan
10/3 Noldor/Eothraim
Dark Servants
18/14 Fire King/Cloud Lord
20/24 Dark Lieutenants/Rhudaur
16/19 Ice King/Long Rider
11/15 Blind Sorcerer/Witch King
17/13 Quiet Avenger/Dog Lord
12/21 Dragon Lord/Corsairs

Rules regarding characters friendly/enemy.

  1. If a foreign character is on your population center anything goes. You can steal, challenge, kill, curse, whatever.
  2. If you run into a foreign charcter in the open you MUST identify the character’s nation to figure out if you can do anything to it. Friend, no offensive actions allowed including doubling. Foe, do anything you want.
  3. Starting characters are already known and do not need to be identified, Elrond, Murazor, etc.
  4. No using starting characters name again if the starting character has already died.
