JOverseer and new XMLs and PDFs

Is anyone having difficulty with JOverseer reading the new PDFs, when the new XML button is checked?

I tried running JOverseer for the same game both ways - with the new XML box checked and with it unchecked.

With it checked, it indicates that the the proper number of XMLs were imported, but that 0 PDFs were imported.

When I run it with the new XML box unchecked, it indicates that it read the proper number of XMLs and PDFs.

However, regardless of which way I run it, the output in the program is lacking. It no longer has 930 and 925 results, and various other data gathering results are lacking too.

If anyone else is having this problem (or better yet, a solution), I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Mike Bel…

Hi there Mike,
use the new format and check the PDFs for encounters.
The encounters aren’t showing up in the XMLs.

That’s what Marios (Jov-creator) told me while I asked a similar question.-

Have Fun!

There’s other problems around the popn icons. On pop combats in Harondor - with destroyed and captured pops, sometimes the port icon was removed when it should have been up (and was up on the pdf), and sometimes it left a port in an otherwise vacant hex when the pop was destroyed. You have to refer to the pdf. Also I noted 2305 was destroyed in combat, however the Joverseer file showed an unowned or greyed MT instead of a ruin.

It’ll be fixed in a future JOverseer version. There’s a lot of bugs though, as Gixxx said including the encounters. You really have to read your pdf results fully.

Cheers

I found the same problem. Going with the box clicked and only picking up xmls. This gives most of the results but was aware of it missing some items although not as much as you say. Glad it is a recognised problem and going to be fixed.

What version of JOverseer are you folks using in having these problems?

I am using 1.06 and have not found these problems. I waited a bit to see if I did on the latest turns.

I have not checked the new XML box. I do not recall hearing of new XML’s. Nor do I recall hearing of new PDf’s. But neither would be the first memo I ever missed. Anyhow, I have not checked the box. I am now hesitant to do so.

If some are using 1.06, or earlier, then I need to pay closer attention, because I have been missing something. Missing things is within my skill set.

If it happens to be a 1.07 problem, reverting to 1.06, or earlier, might work as an interim solution.

I’m using whatever was the version on the web when I started a game about a month ago. That appears to be 1.0.7. Always gone with the new version when I start a new game, to make sure I had the latest version. Might give reverting to 1.0.6 a try thanks.

In the past I found not clicking the new xml box caused problems so had selected that the last couple of times and previous it worked fine. Might be some mis-match with the current version however.

Last week had another oddity with a character being reported as having an encounter but no actual details! Rob says this should now be fixed in new games - as opposed to on-going ones. That it could be ignored as possibly just a loss of some food so sounds like it was the ghosts/evil spirits encounter that causes that although he didn’t actually say.

Steve

I’ve tried 1.06 now, and when I what ever I do (click xml or not) I don’t get any results from the pdf files. So I’m missing character scouts, recons etc…

This is in a new game using the new format.

The new xml format is supposed to replace the pdfs - they’re not supposed to be read because everything is on the xml.

Not the first idea I ever had that did not work.
I need to learn more about this new format.

Okay, I see the info is on the xml’s, but for some reason it just doesn’t read it into the map.
Not sure what is wrong… using 1.07 now, crossed xml, and even tried removing pdf files from the folder

Spivo-

I too am running 1.0.7. and am having the same problems, which caused me to start this thread.

These new problems did not occur until the new pdf’s and xml’s got introduced.

For now, I am having to keep track of scouts via hand on an excel sheet.

If anyone figures out the fix, or if Mario makes a change to his programming, let me know.

Thanks,
Mike Bel…

Well I am kinda happy to not be the only one having the problem

I guess misery loves company.:frowning:

Hi all,

As others noted there are several problems with the new XML files. I’ve been working to fix these and soon I’ll post a new version of JOverseer. But for now you do need to double check what you see in the XMLs against the PDFs.

Note that the with the new XMLs, the PDFs are not needed, hence they are never read.

Thanks a lot

JOverseer is a great tool as it is, make no mistake, but being able to read the new xml with all information would be even better.

Marios

Many thanks for the info and best of luck with the work. Also for clarifying on the issue of the pdfs not being read.

Steve

Marios,

Thanks for your hardwork. JOverseer has been great. As you are on top of the new glitch with the new XML’s, I eagerly await your newest version. Again, thank you for your efforts in making the game more enjoyable for all.

Mike Bel…

Dear Marios,

First thanks for a most excellent program.
When you are fixing JOverseer to handle the new XML format, then please make sure that it also includes information from the 915/920/925 order which is missing in the current format.

Dear Marios,

Thank you very much for Joverseer. Its a very cool program.
I have just started to use it.

Is there any way I can increase the size of the map? I would like to have option to now and then to increase the mapsize so that it cover the hole screen as my laptop isnt that big. If not then maybe something to concider in the next version?
(Not that you have to make new versions all the time. It is very good the way it is.)

Sverre,

It took me awhile to get the hang of JOverseer’s functionality too. One can already make the map (or any quadrant panel) become full screen. Double click on that screen’s tab and that qaudrant will become full screen. Double click on it again to return it to standard qaudrant views.
