Hi Clint, hi guys,
the character LAMTHANC of the Dragon Lord is a dragon !?
What means that ?
Is it only a "normal" character with high stats or means that every time he
is with an army , this army will get the known big combat-bonus ?
After having a look at the nations of each side, I have the feeling the
Goods have a BIG advantage. Only weakness is SK, who faces with WK,FK and
IK and later on QA, Harad, BNum six military nations. UGH! Great challenge.

The army gets a big bonus yes.

I have the feeling that players think this - but one way it so test it out
in play.

RD: Err, no, Clint, Marcus is asking a LA-specific question. There are NO
dragons giving army combat bonuses in any 4A scenario. In LA, I named one
DrL char Lamthanc and gave him high stats so he could (with a bit of
imagination) pass as a dragon. Lamthanc is much younger in LA than later
scenarios, which is why he is no quite so formidable as in 1650.

Pleased that's sorted. Lamthanc as character in LA is C60 E60 M60.
Will you be able to select an appropriate character portrait for him
Clint? Or do you have no control over this? I thought I heard
something about GSI being willing to scan in player drawings (by, not
of!) for a fee.

RD: Yes, I was going to suggest this once we'd got the important stuff
sorted out. It would be really nice if Harlequin could find a dragon
portrait for Lamthanc, but this is only cosmetic.
If Lamthanc has to have a human (or demi-human?) portrait, we'll just have
to assume that he can shape-change, as many dragons (eg Fafnir) could in
'genuine' mythology.
Regards,
Richard.

We've decided not to go with all the Character portraits so that they are
correct as this was take forever. We've tried scanning in before and
converting but because of the MAC issue we can't get the correct format of
file. As we have been asked twice to do it we're not in a rush to sort it
all out.

might be able to help you out. No charge. No kidding.

Okay we would like to offer it so that we can scan in images and use them
for Mac. I forget the format that they are used in but will investigate it.
We would charge for this (basically as with anything anything that takes
extra efforts takes up our time hence we need to pay for the work). At
present I have too many little projects to put the appropriate effort into
things like this I am afraid without cutting back on other services. When
the LA game and bits of official stuff get done please remind... (I'll
inform you).
Thanks
Clint

no or little experience with a mac?
Sheesh... this is an old topic but might I suggest using a 1) scanner and 2)
GraphicConverter (heck it's even free if you don't mind the shareware
delay!). It's a program that works with EVERY graphic format that I've even
seen and some before my time (like TRS-80).
The only effort would be to figure out the file format used in the program
for the images. From there it would be a simple bit of editing to get the
right size and a mouse click for the right format.
Heck, if you want, you might be able to talk us mac users into ugrading your
images. Personally I'm a little tired of that dinky Ji Indur picture.

Rather harsh. They've said that they tried and got stuck. Which means
that they don't have the same skills that you do. I'm sure they could
acquire those skills, but it would take time. And the usual response to
that, is that we would need to be charged something more. (Not
"getting" at anyone here, just my honest perception.)
Heck, if you want, you might be able to talk us mac users into ugrading your

Is that an offer then?
Personally I'm a little tired of that dinky Ji Indur picture.
Agree here. Even more tired of the pics for the "supporting artistes".
Particularly galling is when you play several games at once (4 for me,
soon to be 5) and you get the same po-faced looking chap as emissary for
each nation you play.
The role-playing element is very small in MEPBM, one way of improving it
would be to increase the identification of characters. Broadening the
library of character portraits from which the program selects, would be
a real improvement.

As Laurence says in a later email. As a GM we get to learn a lot of useful
(and useless skills, "what's Richard D's a/c number Clint" 1025... you get
the idea). I have some programming skills, Sam does the webpage, knowledge
of Mac systems, Amiga systems, PC (Dos and Windows), Atari all this sort of
thing. Then we go into public relations, Health and Safety, Import/export
tax, Marketing; Jack of all trades master of none would be an appropriate GM
CV methinks. So if you can help then that would be cool. To learn all that
we have to learn would take a few lifetimes (no doubt many of you are in the
same boat!) so we try to get help. So in answer: Not harder just different
(also PC are more prevalent here so the skills we need to get hold of are
much easier to find amongst guys who do this sort of thing professionally).

I AGREE! I think we're all getting tired of the same old portraits. There seems to be
a few people willing to help out with the technical stuff, too. A couple of
suggestions as to how to make it easier for people to submit their own portraits, and
also to increase the number of portraits available for general use:
1. If there were some sort of format available to most (PC/Mac) users that you could
use directly, then people could send in their own pictures in the correct format
already, assuming we had this info. (Don't know the technical aspects of this one.)
2. How about, (IF the "personal portrait" is good enough and appropriate), you could
offer to waive the fee for that person if they allowed their artwork to be used by all
players?
3. (Semi-related) How difficult would it be to have a "catalog" of portraits, each
with an ID number, and let the player (at startup and when naming new characters)
choose which portraits go with which character by adding another "required info" line?
(It's disappointing to have a mage named "Mystical Morgo", who shows up as a fighter
with a sword and shield.) This "catalog" could be put on the website, and updated on
the fly.
Mike Mulka
Now THAT is a smart idea! Bravo, to you Sir!
