Orome

Try Doriath or Gondolin, but I would try Doriath from the fall of
Doriath in the Silmarilion

Thanks, but I can't find any reference linking Orome to Doriath.

Do you think the answer is as simple as "forest"?

Oromë had nothing to do with Doriath.

"Orom (Quenya: horn-blowing) Ainu, one of the Lords of the Valar and
of Aratar, the spouce of Vana. A Great hunter, Oromë loved Middle-
Earth, where he rode frequently on his great steed Nahar, hunting
the monsters of Melkor. On one of these journeys Orome discovered
the Elves, whom he led on the Great Journey.
With Tulkas, Orome is the Vala who performs deeds of prowess. He is
stern and dreadfull in anger. Orome may have brought the mearas and
the Kine of Araw to Middle-earth; he also loved trees. His horn was
the Vararoma. In Aman his wooded lands lie in southern Valinor.
Called Araw in Sindarin and Bema by Men. Also called Aldaron and
Tauron for his love of trees, Oromoe the Great, and the Great Rider."

From Guide to Middle-Earth.

My guess would perhaps be "Middle-earth" which was Orome's hunting
grounds.

Arda, Middle-Earth or Forest are all good answers in my opinion.

Both "forest" and "Middle Earth" are vague but the best lead anyone
has found to date.

Would saying "Middle Earth Forests" be saying too much? This is
exactly 20 characters counting spaces...but IS 3 words...if the
answer is just "forest" I wonder if saying all 3 words would work the
same...?

Don't most riddles want something more specific? "Forest" is
a gollum vs Bilbo riddle type of answer, not this.

I've pointed the way to the source, Tolkein's book itself, not
some "guide". Has the research been done or is this a continuous
thread of work avoidance?

looked up leads on forests in general...I take riddle solving very

Richard,

Good point!

I just can't help but want to get every riddle right...it is part of
my nature, must be also because I am 100% successful to date.
Usually I solve them on my own, sometimes I go the the very public
and well known sites...(what player doesn't know these sites
exist???)

But on this occasion I'm stumpped. It is not even my encounter but
for a friend in a game I am currently in.

So if this is not the venue or if people want to send an answer
openly or direct to me...let your conscience be your guide.

If Clint wants this to be a "no riddle" board, fine with me, but I
would like to hear this from him.

Thanks,
Gary

Thanks,

Hell no! But, as with any "group" within society, we have
a wide variety of types with all sorts of opinions on best
behaviour. Everything MEPBM here, please! Keep the profanity
down and accept a) not everyone agrees with your opinion or
what you're doing b) some are going to violently disagree...

Those who want to help the individual who simply asks, but NOT
share with the many who do not have the nerve, gall, self-esteem...?
to, can simply send you a private email, as all our addresses
are shown when we send. You'll find more helpful than not
here.

Cheers,

Richard,

  Thanks,
  Gary
Good grief, nobody is going to tell you that you can't discuss riddles on this site (I hope!).

My point is, that if I discover (by diligent research) the answer to a riddle which is not on any list, I'd be a fool to publish it on this list, wouldn't I?

Anyway I've given you a couple of clues in a previous message, so I hope they help. If you do find the right answer, PLEASE do NOT publish it on the list. Why should other lazy b**s (maybe hostile) benefit from your research? This is Middle-earth, a highly competitive environment, not a class in philanthropy!

Enjoy your research (and so should everybody else!).

  Richard.

If Clint wants this to be a "no riddle" board, fine with me, but I
would like to hear this from him.

Fine by me whatever you want to use this for as long as it's Middle Earth related.

Clint

What was the riddle about Orome? I seem to have missed out on the
question, but received hundreds of replies! Thanks chaps.
Polo

I think it was:

My first is in Polo but not in Mint
you're asking the List what it is and it i'n't?
My second's in rubbish and also in Ring
though is asking here quite really sporting?
My third is in boring but never in fun
is riddling here the thing to be done?
My fourth is in muddle but is not in clear
and are your enemies reading you here?
My fifth is in tome though not in look
might you try a good reference book?
My Whole is obscure, and long may it be
keep the right answers between you and me.

Yes, very witty - you must have spent seconds on that one. I was asking
for the question, not the answer.
