Response to Ed Mills

Rather than derail the very interesting thread on 1 banker nation I thought it best to respond here.

So, Clint, what did Bill Feild say when you called him?

Okay I’ll bite… I didn’t - why would I? He’s got in touch with various things in the past (we’re in relatively regular contact) and present. When he passed the game over to us he expressed happiness at the way we were running things and wished us all the best as he wished to bow out but keep in touch. I’ve asked his advice on numerous issues since then (KS, Fourth Age etc) - we’ve got a nice working relationship and get on well with him and his family. (Gisela is a very pleasant individual and if you ever get the chance to interact with her I’d recommend it). They enjoyed a quick view of the Castles of Wales (well Caerphiilly castle and St Fagans when they visited) and we keep in touch so…

Note: neither did I get in touch with Harold, nor the guys down in Bude, nor the Aussie’ referee. Like it lump it they’re no longer involved and haven’t been for a couple of years now in decisions about the game’s future (or present), at their request, in the game - but sometimes we chat.

I think it more interesting that I doubt that I can ever please you Ed. I doubt that you would actually enjoy the game should it go to back the “GSI vision” either. I guess you’ll continue to complain and snipe for the forseeable future in whatever manner you see fit to so that should be interesting to see where next the “Dagger of Ed” strikes. It’s interesting that you do still play though - so we must be doing something right (or at least not wrong enough for you to take your dollars elsewhere). I like complaining for no apparent reason as well - maybe’s it just something we share in common?!?!?

Like I said, have fun and help make it fun for others.

Clint (GM)

Hi Clint,

you know that I am not a big friend of most things Ed has posted here, but the reason why you should call Bill is obvious: to ask him what he thinks about the banker exploit and what could be done about it. That would mean, of course, to accept that this is a problem, first, and it seems to me that you have not made many steps on that path so far
OTOH if you are so sure that it’s all perfectly OK, there is no reason NOT to call him - if just to satisfy our curiosity.
You said you can see no impact on the game so far, and that’s because the exploit became public knowledge just recently. The more DS grudge team will apply this, the more FP teams will get their asses handed and complain.
For my part, I won’t start any more grudge games unless the exploit is ruled out before game start. As DS, that will be quite hard - you know there is this shiny toy but you are not allowed to use it. So better take it away, I’d say…

You can please some of the people some of the time, or some of the people all of the time, or all of the people some of the time…but not all of the people all of the time, or Ed mills most of the time, or should that be at any time!

Note you can always agree not to do this in a game. Any agreement between teams is binding in that manner.

Clint (GM)

One problem of getting GM knowledge is that I don’t want any GM knowledge of the mechanism so I’m wary of this route. I’m checking it out as a player as I can but so far the only evidence I’ve seen is one game and I’m anxious about other factors in that game having the impact.

Clint (GM)

Lets see, Ed suggests that Clint consult will Bill Feild (the co-creator of the game and code developer) about the OBN. Clint is so offended he starts a defensive thread. When the dust settles, Clint actually does consult with Bill and found the contact useful. Could it be that Ed’s judgement might have been correct afterall?

Yup, Ed!

There is an exception to every rule, you see?

RFLMAO

Clint

“Self praise in no praise at all”

Being a computer/internet illiterate I don’t know what “RFLMAO” means.

“Rolling on Floor Laughing My Ass Off”

Its a term to express how funny a person finds something

Gotta go with RFLMAO myself.

That was to funny Mormegil.

tim

Ed, consult the time line. Clint didn’t believe there was a problem when you proposed he consult with Bill. It was after he finally realized the problem when he went “Oh crap…Bill!!” So your judgement was correct, your timing was off. Is that how it goes in Game 18 too…?

Brad

I always thought it was ROTFLMFAO…

Ah, Brad, if you will reread my suggestion I acknowledged there might be a problem. Hence consult with Bill. Does this mean I am more mentally flexible than some?

Mental and flexible? Do you do yoga?

Only joking Ed!

You obviuosly love the game too!

No. It means you’re willing to bother Bill with a ‘maybe possible problem’ and Clint wasn’t. Granted, we’re all more mentally flexible than “some”… And we all require different degrees of certainty before knocking on doors and dragging others into our circumstances without doing our due diligence first. If we’re here to bleat our own horns, I was the one who said “Test, then call Bill if problem is confirmed” and that’s exactly what happened. I’m the most prophetically mentally flexible! I’m the most prophetically mentally flexible! Nyah nyah!

Brad

isn’t that just another term for “schizophrenic”?

We admit nothing.
