Not our best performance as a team, probably our worst. Ik capital was nicely defended until the troops got called to Ungol… and then they weren’t needed! :o
We’ve also had a rather bad run of luck e.g. challenge against Ibrahim who was 2 to 1 odds on…
DS giving up turn 5 in a quality grudge game ? Thats a disgrace in my opinion, and a matter of extremely bad morale, the game has not even startet at this point. At least DS could continue until several of their nations died, as we all know the DS ability to turn a game around as time goes…
I’ll keep turn 6 brief. Durthang became Deadthang with a small EO startup HC force and the Duns startup HC slipping in and burning it to the ground (as the defenders jealously eyeing the riches at Ithil departed the scene :-). That move left us in a tough spot in Ithil, but left NW Mordor open to dismantling with a flanking position to isolate Morannon.
In other areas, Rhudaur was all but overrun with a massive contingent sitting on 2008. The WK alone couldn’t hope to counter the armies already in Rhu territory plus the huge reinforcements circling so another tough day brewing.
In Mirkwood just a solitary DS icon scuttling about trying to find a recruit where the big people’s boots wouldn’t squish them
In the far south the Harad is down to just 4MT’s, so a huge drain on team resources no doubt with all those armies running about. Not enough troops to take an MT with the defenders, just enough to force the Corsairs into a defensive fight for the time being. But with the 9T’s and 1 MT destroyed, the SG comms were all returning to build the purpose built armies of conquest. A lot of reinforcements were about to arrive.
Thanks so much to Mark, Brynn, Gary, Michael, Mike and Jason for taking up the challenge, and for giving us a solid attempt. A lot of attacking armies were thrown out there, but I think on the day - Keith who ran the Eo, Woodies, Northies and Sinda put in a superb effort right across Mirkwood, Rhovanion and the NE to counter everything thrown at him. Given the huge numbers of icons he dealt with over that 6 turns, I don’t put the DS position down to any lack of commitment, but rather more like beating your head against a stone wall. The strength was expended and no toehold was gained. The freep on the other hand were fortunate enough to have their blows land both heavy handed and telling.
Thanks again and well done on the effort. A few more leakers in your attacks and the game may have had a different complexion.
Hi all. I think this game was one of those games of football where the two teams slug it out at 50/50 but only one team can find the net. The result doesn’t really do justice to the numbers of armies the DS threw at Keith. Keith’s effort was exceptional. If he had dropped any of those juggling balls with DS armies converging on Mirkwood, Rhun and Rhovanion in great force, not to mention their superior position in Ithil, we would have been in a different position. As it was the Ds were about to lose every outlying theatre and Mordor had been set up for dismantling. Go a bit slow on Brynn’s team, they did well, it wasn’t their day, and it’s no point playing on when the victory is assured (not to mention the heart’s not in it). Thanks again Brynn and co, I hope your next outing bears more appealing fruit
I’m all about the military game and my nations were prepared accordingly - and that was good, because anything less would’ve been very ugly for the Freeps.
Thanks to the DS for the mighty clash of arms. Better luck next time.
Hi guys. Well done! A real shame this has finished so quickly - I think we could have had quite a battle. I could talk about what I think each side did well, or not so well, but the bottom line is we made too many mistakes and you didnt !
I’d like to hear your thoughts about that. There were certainly parts of our game that I wasn’t fully satisfied with.
but the bottom line is we made too many mistakes and you didnt !
I find this is ultimately the deciding factor when it comes to two experienced teams. With sound strategy and overall command of the game in place on both sides, the little things become the difference-makers.
Hi Mike. The game was a quickie - but them’s the breaks. I guess the only really important matter was what was gained, and how the next game goes accordingly. Much appreciated that you guys turned up to play with us. Cheers
Well played DS. Your game seemed error free and extremely frustrating for us. In comparison and despite some good ideas and [even] predicting your moves, our execution was poor and we got caught. We also had a run of bad luck, a few incidences which could have turned the tide.
Just for the record, our economies were doing okay so no great burden there. It was just unfortunate that one of our nations forgot to sell timber…ouch! The consensus then, was that we could try and hold you to a draw, but winning was unlikely. It was a team vote to drop.
Personally, I’m really gutted that it’s over. It shouldn’t be. However, while it lasted, it was a great contest and evenly balanced.
Hi Bryn. The Circle as a 6 (or more) man team broke down. It’s hard (read that as nearly impossible) to get a larger group of players consistently talking and working well together. We tried the 2 man format and the results were pleasing to the eye (Gixxx makes such a lovely little wife and then Keith came along… scratch that I don’t want to think about that any more We don’t have any more players, and to be honest we’re really happy with what we’ve got. I dunno, I haven’t spoken to the team, but as a possible alternative - would one of your players be willing to jump ship and join us for a one off?
Okay Bryn. I’m happy to look at any workable alternative, but then again - I’m easy to get on with It’s all good fun, no bad heads here so whatever it takes to get you lads back on your feet and give us a beating.
Cheers
Rob
Hi Bryn,
there is really not much to add.
We had a team of 12 players and the result was, that I as the captain did several nations orders one day before due.
Something I really don’t want to do again!-
Playing with such a small team saves time and nerves!
