So it sounds like your standard 12v12 grudge match, except a little more bloodthirsty. Right on! Where do I sign up? Can we organize a ladder tourney? Perhaps regionals for USA, Canada, Europe and Australia?
Aussies are now 4 from 4 actually, we took out the Scandinavians on turn 13ish with the 2-1 rule before winning a classic game (34) against Ben’s yanks who gracefully resigned. We are itching for the return game against the yanks, however word is this may take some time to organise. As Herman said, we’re up for another game in the meantime if any team is keen…
Stags,
do you think we should wind a few of these nations up with the Aussie team being "undefeated"and currently “the best in the world”.
Do you think they will take the bait?

Clint,
i think it might be time to update the news and events section. that table is falling behind the times.
Note our Aussie team is a little bit multinational, with a Malaysian veteran, a sprinkling of top-notch US players, and of course herman, who is clearly from another planet.
And I think our last game vs. a US team was g31? G34 was last year when we crushed…hell, someone. The victories kinda blur after a while

More than one non-Aussie means your team should lose its “National” moniker and simply be named after the Captain like any other team. (don’t quote me rules or GM acceptance, please) Makes this 10 year long “World Championships” a little silly, don’t you think? Especially after 2 (or more?) of the teams no longer exist due to lack of interest. I suspect Clint was right to ask last year how to make it more exciting and/or speed it up. Quaint concept, but clearly no longer meaningful, so it seems.
Canadian Brad
Mmm, and mister Beckham playing for a Spanish team makes it Manchester does it? There’s an ‘Australian’ pole vaulter called Gregoriava, a boxer called Kostya Tszyu and a tennis player called Jelena Dokic. Okay, she kinda changed her mind, but you get the idea. We’ll take anyone. So if you grab eleven other players and decide to call yourselves the Senegalese national team, that’s cool, we won’t demand to see passports before we turn your characters into food colouring. “Aust vs. USA” or whatever just gives the comp a bit more shape than saying “Reggie’s team, you know, those guys, the ones who beat those other guys.”

Good Grief! I agree with Player. You “Aussies” should send the Kuala Lumpur chap some naturalization papers. Or, maybe recruit a New Zealander. Or, maybe, call yourselves the “Australsians”. I know deception is part of the game–but guys—.
If the 3 Yanks and 1 Malaysian are happy to go by the Moniker “Team Aussie” What business is it of anyones but our team. As my good friend emdun says it’s a name to distinguish us from the other teams.
That and the fact there aren’t that many of us (Aussies) playing the game (hell they are scraping the barrel getting me into the team) so we carry a few imports, live with it.
Or get your pure team together and teach us the error of our ways.
Well, now we know why the “Aussies” won. They had three Yanks on their team! It was actually a “Coalition victory”.
It all simply reaffirms my point, doesn’t it? “…clearly no longer meaningful…”.
Not entirely true, the team is made up of players who have a long history of playing with and against each other under the now defunct SFGA, who were the australian providers of ME before Harley took over. There’s been the usual dropouts and replacements that any grudge team goes through but the core team has remained the same. Perhaps “Aussies & a few mates” would be a better team description, unfortunately there is not a large player base left from down under.
The world champ games more than anything else are about providing a level playing field, everyone plays under the same setup, there is no randomness with what neutrals decide to do, it comes down to team tactics as to who wins and loses, that is where is the “national” flavour can come to the fore
Explain “national flavour” involving 3 different “nationals” spanning different continents…? Hey, I’m not raining on your parade, I know the core members of this team are good. Let’s not compare professional brand name sports teams to the olympics, though. Either you’ve got a team made up of nationals, or you don’t. Otherwise, me and a couple other Canadians, maybe even that Quebecois, can call ourselves the new Scandinavian team because one of my friends is marrying a Swede…
very funny
I think it comes down to the history of the team playing with and against each other, which originated pre harley days in australia. The strategy and tactics we adopt are “made in australia”. Its more a case of circumstances. Yes, we’ve got some non aussies playing but we like to think they play like an aussie now
But…do they Drink like Aussies…?
one day Harley should organise a middle earth convention, give everyone a year or 2 lead time to arrange travel arrangements, make sure there is plenty of beer to drink and we’re off! Then we can find out who are truly the world champs at middle earth and getting pissed at the same time. I’d say the Mexicans will be in with a good run, that Tequila is wicked stuff, I’m still recovering from the last weekend’s lick, sip, suck! (as an interesting variation, try tequila suicides, you snort the salt, shot the tequila and squirt the lemon in your eye…)

Do you mean a gaming w/end - well we do the FTF for that and will run it if we have enough players for it. We’re pondering doing a convention ourselves sometime in the future. But for now we’re going to 13 conventions this year - the two biggest being EuroGencon and USGencon (next week). If you’re there come and say hello.

as a player on the team of yanks who were defeated by the aussies…
call them what you will, but until they are defeated, they are WITHOUT PEER in the grudge arena. i am fortunate to play with top shelf american players, and we got lumped. with respect to above board issues, they are gentle,en in every sense of the word.
sm
yes stags, we are reorganized, and ready to have another joust.
1650 reverse match, perhaps. i still have a spot for your head on my mantle.
What a great team the yanks are too.
I had a very steep learning curve as this was my first game. (talk about sink or swim!!) My fellow team members were all very happy to be pushed to new heights by this very formidable team.
MJ had many a late night phone call co-ordinating the defences during this match.
A reverse rematch would be great and I don’t think it will be long before you hear from either of the team co-captains.
