In the case Clint will be able to find some German-players to join,

Hey, did someone call us ‘professional’? Or BRAND NAME?? Heh, you obviously never watched us organising an attack two hours before the deadline if you think we’re professional. But thanks!
And I say if you want to grab a bunch of Canadians and call yourselves Scandinavians, great! Kinda weird, but I’m fine with that.
I’m curious: would the game be better if we called ourselves the “Not all Aussies, but mostly” team? Maybe we could make a team name based on an amalgam of our captains’ names. That’d be MUCH better…

I would play on a national team if I could play on the UK team. I find the UK players more interesting than my fellow Americans <g>.

I think you may have to play as an import after that comment!! your fellow Yanks may take exception to it.

If speaking truth means I get flamed… so be it… Truth is the greatest of all virtues.

Brian H.

Yes, but which one do you want? The truth? The whole truth? Or, nothing but the truth?

When King Arthur asked Merlin which virtue of the Knight was the greatest, Merlin replied, “Truth, for without that there is nothing.”

I’ll take that one.

Truth is a virtue only when spoken with tact and kindness. Being a jerk is not a virtue.

I’m reminded that Pilate asked Christ “What is truth?” John Boorman, Merlin and others might well follow Christ’s example in that issue.

Wow. You’ve gotta love where threads can end up on these boards…

I guess, somewhere in here, Pilate sneered at some moral tenet he heard, scoffing: “What’s in a name? Who cares how many Yanks are on the Australian team anyway?” Merlin is conjuring a “Dispel Prejudice” spell for the American UK lover, and Emdun is challenging Herman to a spelling bee to see who can spell the last names of the team captains backwards the fastest…

Okay. I finally found my cold pint. See you all around when Team Candanavia is ready to issue it’s first challenge…

Brad

Uh, is this where we are organizing teams? Where do i sign up?

Some topics are not easily sugar cooated, and no matter how you do there are always people who will take offense as you have done. Now if I wanted to be a “jerk” about it as you seem to think , I would have sarcastically posted an entire litany of reasons as to why I feel the way I do, and I certainly would not have used emoticons in my post.
Rather than attempt constructive engagement of someone who has an opinion you do not understand, you stoop to labelling and name calling. Your reaction was overly emotional, and frankly immature; and ironically is an example of some of the reasons I prefer to play with native UK members. :frowning:

Jason and Brian are welcome to ask me for the other’s email address, as this in unwarranted in a public forum. Also, from what I know of you both, there is No Winning Here!

We’re all about assassination, slaughter, and pillage here folks…nice light topics, let’s keep it easy…

Thanks for confirming Brad’s observation.

Miscreants have hijacked the thread I started!

Does it really matter what country a “free agent” comes from as long as the national team he wants to play with accepts him?

Turning this thread into a forum where personal attacks are launched at others is childish. I think that’s true no matter what country you hail from.

Can’t we all just get along, start some games up, and beat the crap out of each other?

Leonidas

I agree with the crap-kicking Leo. Won’t comment on the personal attacks. Don’t agree that “free agency” and “national teams” go together. “Bills Bacardi Bunch” can have folks from all over the world, if they like. Team Canada is for Canadians. Very simple.

When some of us who’ve commented here were thinking of putting together that very same Team Canada last year, I was advised by the company that the World Championship teams were held to a “general rule” of 1 import. Fair enough, even a purist like me could accept that, gives you someone to blame… But 4~? No, it’s not a national team anymore.

MEGames is planning on rating “teams” with the Player Rating System. These teams will be named after the “Captains”. So Bill, the Bacardi Breather mentioned above, can roll over as many players from as many Caribbean vacationing nations as he’d like, but it’s still His team. His name is on the rated list, he gets the credit and takes the barbs. You want to move to the next level and be a National Team, you make up a team of Nationals.

Brad

I think we would be struggling to find 12 Aussies playing at any one time. There is only 1 other Aussie playing that I know of or have seen posting besides the guys in the team.

These guys have been playing as Australia for a lot of games now and as a team are yet to be beaten. To my knowledge no one else has had a whinge about the name of the team, including the guys running the show. So untill they say otherwise we are and will remain “Team Australia”

“Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!.. Oi, Oi, Oi!”

Hate to be a pest, but I’ve seen the UK guys use this word on occasion and now an Aussie… In North America we have a word spelled “whine”, pronounced “wine”. What’s the “G” for? Is this the Non-NA version of this word or a different one? Same meaning or slightly different? Eh?

Many thanks,

Brad Crossing the Cultural Divide

ps - And, if your national team doesn’t qualify, it don’t play. If there aren’t enough bobsledders in Jamaica, they either don’t compete or don’t get as many sleds as the Austrians. World Cup Football (soccer…? eh?) only has those participants who qualify (note I’m a Canadian here…we qualified once, didn’t score a goal…ohhh the pride…). World Championship Hockey doesn’t have a bunch of displaced Canadians calling themselves Team Namibia.

Tomato, tomahto. But as you said, MEGames is happy with the compromise, so be it. You like it, you like it. I now know, for absolute sure, that the World Championships is a dead tourney that could likely use some reviving. I suspect any “team” competition will likely end up in another (non-“national”) form.

Brad

pps - When all is said and done, maybe you guys should, no matter what, KEEP the name Team Australia…let’s the rest of us know who to avoid playing…

Whinge : Complaint/ be ungrateful/ complain.

Usually used in reference to the English as in “Whingeing Pom”

Last time I looked there weren’t many Liverpudlians playing for Liverpool or a majority of locals in any other city team playing most sports but that doesn’t stop them being called after the cities name. This team was organised in Australia, played under an Australian run moderator, is captained by Australians and thinks Australian. (ie there is much alcohol consumed during the organising of orders)

We don’t have enough compatriots playing to field a full squad of pure breeds so we are given a few extra imports who have been playing together as a team predating the service in its current form back when it was run from Australia. They are Aussies as far as I’m concerned and as far as everyone they have played is concerned. You don’t want to play us because we are not a pure team, that’s your call but don’t go demanding a change because it doesn’t suit your way of thinking, every one else has been fine with it since their first game as Australia and they were here as a team long before you. Stop whingeing!
