1 vs many (or 1) Scott Moyes

Turn 3 Detail Thoughts/Report:

Scott (and others that might like to know),

Now that I have went through my turns in detail and have ironed out most my moves I figured it was time to tell how I see the world of ME shaping up.

–Artifact Hunt: Seems this turn and next will tell the story on who wins the majority of the arty hunt. I must have 10-15 char’s working on finding, moving to and picking up artys. Hope you are only at 1 location, I think you know what I mean here!

–Agent Activity: Finally got agents organized…now what to do with them???
Count: Goods killed about 5 char’s (3 challenges/1 battle/1 to arty steal) and Evils have killed 1 to theft plus 1 kidnap. Hey, this is supposed to be the other way around….Need to change this over next few turns.

–Camps: About 50% success rate. Not bad for 30E. hope for better results this turn.

–Armies: I expect that next turn we will be having a ton of battles with major armies on both sides as we engage this turn. We have a few minor battles this turn but next turn will make up for that. Still wondering where DW’s Iron Hill armies and NM’s Mirkwood starting armies are. I have my guess/scouts but will leave it at that for now . Do you know where the CL and BS starting armies are???

–NW (WK/Rhu) Area:
*So far only lost a village and town of Rhu.
*Blocked Duns 900/900 cav army and huge inf army this turn. Can most likely take care of these guys but not the next 2 points.
*Now I see Arth’s armies finally moved out towards WK capital – has to be 7000+ troops, not sure how to stop them…anyone see any Dragons around.
*Now I see Card’s combining forces…8000+ troops, here they come also…anyone see any dragons around.
*DW starting army moving on Goblin Gate this turn.
*Not sure how I am going to keep these troops in check but recruiting around 2600-3000 troops per turn so that should help but not stop the goods.

–Mirkwood Area:
*Almost completely owned by goods outside of DrgL starting army hanging out at hidden city. Looks to be the last of that army this turn as I am facing 2 armies of SE. WM most certainly moving up on Mt. Gundabad this turn as WK army ran back home to help against the DW there.
*DrgL capital fell as expected by all the EO starting cav and WM army. Was able to curse/sickness/weakness the EO commander to death.
*EO/NM/WM/SE Recruiting like mad I see. Looks like you are going to have to continue to fund them.

–Rhun Area:
*Looking good for the evils, I think, but what would you expect when EO left the area high and dry. Are the NM talking to EO these days?
*EO MT at 3612 have my LR starting cav army there and face a small EO army. Looks like I will have a recruiting base between Rhun and Mirkwood…….now where to move this cav army?
*NG will lose another T/T on North Road. Now where to move those IK troops?
*I guess the NM want their town (now village) back at 4017 as I see 2 NM armies on it.
*Now my plan in Rhun area…………….

–Mordor Area:
*Both NG bridges down but I am sure you can put them back up soon enough if you want. But you are also funding large troops of NM/EO/SG/NG/WM/Arth/Cards as no major battles have happened with your starting main armies. Of course this hurts me more than you but I am taking steps to resolve that this turn….Attack!!!
*First armies of goods approaching North Gate besides the NG starting cav that moved on DogL camp at 3121. I did not expect that as I assumed you would engage my main troops to make room for the incoming armies. So now I have to figure out how to block them without causing me to much trouble on getting out and engaging the incoming forces.
*Will take Osgiliath (3024) this turn from NG. So now own/control all but 3028 on this side of river. I expect some landing parties soon from the Gondors/SE.
*East Mordor is all quite and I like it that way.

–Harad/Cor/QA Area:
*Will heat up greatly these coming turns as SG 5000+ starting army is at 2535. They face QA’s stating army from backup capital and Corsairs Army. No Harad armies on pop, surprised by that?
*I guess Harad’s 5000+ troops are waiting to engage Cor/QA?
*QA’s starting capital army found some of Harad’s forces at 2734.
*Now have to figure out how to take on SG’s force and harad’s soon to advance, I think, forces.

In summary:
*I think we have a good even game so far with both sides having advantages in certain fields but no overall advantage that I can see. Yes, gold is tight but if you do not engage me I will engage your armies/pops (I will not raise market prices by sending gold to 1 kingdom as I do not think that is in the best interest of the game, I know it works as I have seen others use it but don’t think that is right for ME gaming/fun. However, I will do buyouts and other things). Anyway, good game so far and I look forward to the next 2 turn results as I think they will tell a lot about the war in ME.

Delusional behaviour will get you no where!! Just kidding, I also think that this game is really close right now, could go either way, and will tip soon.

–Artifact–As far as artifact hunting, I guess I have around the same number finding, moving to and picking up as you. Had that bit of bad luck at that one…

–Agent–Agent activity, damn, how did you get yours organized so quickly? I’m still working the plan up and moving people around, soon, though.

–Camps–I’ve been fairly lucky with camps also, I guess the ME boys are being generous for giving me such a bad starting spell list.

–Armies–Yes, the big battles, I loves them, they make me happy. I love to see and smell Orcs burning on an open fire. Eomer was my hero in the movies, burning those orcs like that, what a good man.

–NW (WK/Rhu) Area:
*So far only lost a village and town of Rhu.

  • Yes, you’ve been blocking and have only lost a village and town, but a loss is a loss and you’ve been on the defensive there. But I must say, I do think your blocks have been good ones, but they will run out soon.

  • All the armies will be in theater soon, and then no blocks at all will help. Only Sauron parading around (had that happen before, took out a whole Cardolan army on turn 1).

–Mirkwood Area:

  • I must be looking at a different map, I see you ahead there, but not decisively so. Must be the starting CL and BS armies then, moving up from the southeast…

I agree 100% with the good game thing, although I think that with the bridges being down makes NG more of a bystander instead of the lead warrior nation, that puts you slightly ahead.

Well turn 4 was run, and I’ve found the CL and BS armies!! Yahoo, I know where they are, I know where they are! The CL under Grasty at 3222 with the BS under Ethacali and Leardinoth at 4217 and 4017. Good thing that those troops are really crappy or I’d be worrying more. I do see now what you were talking about before, the Rhun is not looking great for me. I’ll just have to bring in my own suprises (could this be the focal point of the war? Will the bad guys forge a foothold in the East outside of Mordor? Or will the good guys counter attack with the viciousness necessary to stem the tide? These and other answers will be forthcoming in future editions of “As the Rhun Turns”).:frowning: :frowning:

There’s an awful lot of eye icons lollygagging around outside of the Black Gate. Me wonders what are they doing there, spending money?:frowning:

The NW should be over and you’ll be able to concentrate on more fruitful endevours soon. :wink:

The south is not looking great for me, but I’m wondering what army icon is at 2737? It’s a long way away from anything. I also think your little fleet at 3334 isn’t anywhere near big enough to stop the death and destruction coming. Maybe if you put the bridges back up at 2924 and 2927 I’ll turn around and head back to the Ithil.:smiley:

A little artifact story that I should wait 1 more turn to tell but can not as you have said you had a very bad start on the arty front on turn 0. Well here is the very bad start of the evils for your enjoyment:

Turn 0 arty hunt mages:

Mage 1: LAT w/ casting rank 57 with no artys
Mage 2: LA w/ casting rank 80(95) with +30M mage arty
Mage 3: LA w/ casting rank 50(80) with +30M arty (30Mage)
Mage 4: LA w/ casting rank 70 with no artys
Mage 5: RA, this was a 30Mage so no help
“All” Other Mages did not know any of the cycle (no 412, 418, 428)
For you laugh, not 1 BS mage and any of these 3 spells!

Turn 1 Results:
Mage 1: LAT w/ casting rank 57 with no artys
=Cast LAT on ???, Failed

Mage 2: LA w/ casting rank 80(110) with +30M mage arty
=Decided to Learn LAT and cast it. Need to take risk as I could
be well behind in Arty Hunt. Result: Learned LAT at 67% so casting
rank at 97%…hahaha…failed on locating best arty in game!

Mage 3: LA w/ casting rank 50(80) with +30M arty (30Mage)
=Cast LA on ???, Failed at 80 casting rank…hahaha!

Mage 4: LA w/ casting rank 70 with no artys
=Cast LA on ???, yeyey it worked and told me what hex arty was “near” :slight_smile:

Mage 5: RA, this was a 30Mage so no help

Rest of mages:

Yep, on the Agent Front not 1 agent got stealth, so I must have really pissed someone off in the ME world. Wonder if next round of characters we can hire will give me any stealth?

Now for a full turn 4 report on the “World of ME in the Eyes of the Darks”:

–Artifacts: Finally some good results on this front. Took a lot of orders and characters to get this up and running full speed. Can’t say much more until I can get my hands on them.

–Agents: No agents with Stealth……Was able to get another Kidnap of NG char and his 1100 cav went poof. My guessing was not good last turn on where your armies would move to. Wonder if I did any better this turn? :slight_smile:

–Market: No question you have done a great job here with everything very low. The only confusion I have is I sold a ton of food and there is only 2000 on the market? I did not know you could buy food before I sold it….sounds like you bought some futures in corn this turn! Now have to figure out how to get price up some.

–Camps: A little better this turn on camps, ~70%?

–Armies: I guess we know where the NM Mirkwood starting army is now. Headed to Black Gate. A little surprised not to see huge EO cav army engage me. Guess you have to protect your home land. Also, not as many battles as I thought.

–Pop Count (will only do this a few more times as it will get to crazy soon):
Evils to date
a. Evil pops lost: **1 DrgL Capital; 1 town; 2 villages
b. Evil pops going to lose this turn: 2 MT; 1 village
c. Goods recaptures (not included in a or b above): 1 former town

Goods to date

The pop count will change fast once Rhu/WK start to fall but I think the evils are off to a good start.

–NW (WK/Rhu) Area:
*So far only lost the town and village and will lose nothing this turn.
*Arth starting armies just 2 hexes outside of WK capital and engaged with army of WK. WK troops are toast.
*Duns Cav & Inf armies engaged with WK & Rhu armies outside of Rhu at 1909.
*Cards armies no where to be seen. Thought you would have moved on Rhu this turn but guess you have bigger plans for them this turn.
*DW’s starting army finally made it to Goblin Gate and that will burn this turn. Expect them to be headed to Rhu land. Must send an Envoy to DW and ask for peace. Rhu promises to never attack DW’s again as long as DW’s do not attack Rhu :slight_smile:
*WK/Rhu out of tricks on blocking now and can only hope for dragons soon :slight_smile:

–Mirkwood Area:
*Now Mt. Gundabad falls to WM and Goblin Gate to DW so outside of the DrgL’s hidden town, Goods claim all of Mirkwood on Turn 5.
*DrgL starting army will now fall finally to the hands of the WM. My goal here was to kill or capture SE commanders before you took me out. I won against 4 army commanders total but did not kill or capture any of them…shoot….

–Rhun Area:
*Looking good for only good pop center remaining in area after this turn is NM capital, DW village and NM town on east side of lake. Still face NM Rhun Starting armies and DW starting armies. They will soon face off against BS and LR starting armies.
*Where oh where is the SE navy/army? Recruiting at his hidden MT I assume.
*DW army went to protect NM capital or ran for the hills. Maybe my boss took them out? That would help if he did.

–Mordor Area:
*Will take last of NG’s T/T on east side of river this turn.
*Both Bridges still down. Expect Good to raise 1 real soon.
*Black Gate is starting to heat up some with NM Mirkwood starting army finally showing up for battle. They are 3 hexes up road from Black Gate. But evils still control very well right now.
*EO Cav army waiting for big strike after taking DrgL capital…where are they headed?
*Eoplex, EO recruiting like crazy there, wonder if he just met up with EO cav, now that would be a huge army that a dragon could not even stop!
*East Mordor: No action and I like it that way.

–Harad/Cor/QA Area:
*Last turn Goods had 11,000+ troops in South Harad, ouch, but my luck paid off. First I won a challenge of Harad commander at his capital which took out 1300 troops. Was surprised he did not refuse. Than another Harad army (1900) in hex attack QA capital starting army +recruits and QA won!. SG’s 5100 starting troops also decided to not move this turn as their commander was challenged by a slightly weaker commander of Corsairs and Corsairs pulled it out! Now there is ~8500 troops of goods. Still a risk to Corsairs and QA as SG could always send more troops but I feel a little better.
*A large SG army moved on QA village at 3234. Not much I can do about them but watch them for a while to move through all the rough. Maybe by than I can get the QA a dragon 

–Summary:
*I still think this game is going great for both of us on one field or the other. You control the Market and Mirkwood. I am having fun in Rhun and around Mordor with some success in Harad land. You have huge armies coming down on me in Northwest and Black Gate. Anyway, great fun so far and I look forward to the next turn. It will take me a week to crank out the orders from this point.

What’s so crazy about this game and John’s post about the latest turn, is that I could have written it myself:) I’d have to say I agree with everything he’s said except a couple of things (such as what I’m doing with my armies, that I want him to find out himself, like I had to for the CL and BS, at the sharp end of a spear).:smiley:

I have only done a map review so far but turn looked like it went well for me for the most part. I am a little stunned by the amount of EO troops you have. Also, I guess it was bad timing on my part hitting your MT where all your EO troops decided to combine :slight_smile: You have mave close to 10,000 EO troops with 3000+ cav…talk about my troop costs.

More this coming week when I get a chace to read through the turns in more detail.

You’re right on the EO, costs are a bear, but what’s a person to do? Especially when the opponent is such a warmonger? I try to be nice and what do you do? Pop a few characters, kidnap a few more and now you want to destroy poor Rivendell? Gees, what going on here?

You first destroyed all my carefully laid plans by destroying bridges, and you’re not done destroying them yet. The SG army was just going to visit you, now he can’t and he’ll be cranky if he has to go north into the cold.

Overall, not a good turn for the free, but it’s still early.

On Rivendell. My 60+ mage has tried from the beginning of the game to learn reveal pop and failed a few times. So there went my main reveal plan with SE being the main target for my extra cav and DrgL army. On well, now time to figure out how to stop all your troops in the NW…
I know of only 1 char RIP so my armies or guard agents must have gotten more :slight_smile: So you have me do all the dirty work for the artifacts and you try to steal them off of me! That does not sound very fair. You at least have to step into the dark caves not sit outside and try to sneak it off my person. But I knew the Goods had some evil in them that is why I had guard(s).

I did not notice that due date, thanks. It is suppose to be the 16th? It will be close as last week I had long hours at work for our monthly close and was not able to spend lunch hour going over my turns. I am finished with 3 turns and have reviewed all turns now. Just doing orders now.

Now for a full turn 5 report on the “World of ME in the Eyes of the Darks”:

–Artifacts: Results were great. Caught 1 on your little agents trying to steal #175 off my mage. Now if I can get all of my characters (that are remaining) out of the hexes this turn than I think I will have a lot of the major artys with a few still up in the air…goods don’t really like artys anyways!

–Agents: No agents with Stealth…Was able to get one RIP down in Harad land and about 1700 troops went home. Again My turn 4 agents’ guesses where wrong. I need to figure out a better way to get my agents working. Hope I guessed right this turn 5….we shall see in a few days when turn 6 is ran :slight_smile:

–Market: No question you have done a great job here. You beat me to the buyout this turn. Need to figure how to get the market up here. Hope you are not using all those ponies and timber for armies. Just to make gold?

–Camps: Getting better at this.

–Armies: Man do you have a lot of troops for EO, about 11,000+. Arth and Cards are adding their fair share also. More on armies in each section.

–NW (WK/Rhu) Area:
*So far only lost the town and village and might lose another WK Town.
*Arth 6,500+ troops just 2 hexes outside of WK capital and engaged with army of WK. WK troops are toast. WM army of 2,500+ now 2 turns from capital also. Looks like I got 1 more turn of blocking and than they will be on my capital. Now where are those dragons………
*Duns Cav & Inf armies fought with WK & Rhu armies outside of Rhu at 1909. I won the battle so that takes care of one major threat to Rhu. Also got a bonus of capturing 3 char’s of Duns from his 2 armies (1 got away already). That is the most I have ever captured in a battle.
*Cards armies now on doorsteps of Rhu’s backup. 50/50 which army moves first for the block.
*DW’s starting army burned Goblin and advanced with WM small army towards Rhu as expected. Sent my small army to block at 2309 and ask them nicely to go back home. Doubt they will listen :-).
*Finally revealed NE’s MT, Rivendale. Now the question is can I take it with NE’s 800 troops?
*WK/Rhu running out of tricks now and can only hope for dragons soon :slight_smile:

–Mirkwood Area:

  • Goods claim all of Mirkwood on Turn 5. Only DrgL’s hidden town lives.
  • Send cav of LR and DogL all the way to 3112 to try to burn but looks like I picked wrong turn as EO is combining 6,000 troops there…
  • Evil armies on NG’s T/T at 2619 and 3116 with no goods….nice! Also on a few EO’s camps.

–Rhun Area:
*Looking good for only good pop centers remaining in area after this turn is NM capital, DW village. Still need to face NM Rhun starting armies and DW starting armies. They will soon face off against BS and LR starting armies as they all must be just sitting now at NM capital? Well my BS/LR armies are coming.

  • Took 4015 this turn.
  • Will take NM town at 4415 (east side of Rhun).
  • Where-O-where is the SE navy/army? Recruiting at his hidden MT I assume. Nazgul, can you send an agent over there to see what is up :slight_smile:

–Mordor Area:
*Evils own 100% of the East side of river.
*Both Bridges still down. Expect Good to raise 1 soon.
*Black Gate is heating up. NM Mirkwood starting army facing off with some DogL troops and DrkL’s starting army. Shall be a very big battle this turn and close I think.
*EO Cav army waiting for big strike and now sit at 3316 of IK’s. Wonder if he is headed to Rhun area to save the NM?
*Eoplex, not good. My first cav strike on MT is met with 6000+ EO troops, ouch!
*East Mordor: No action and I like it that way.

–Harad/Cor/QA Area:
*Turn 3 Goods had 11,000+ troops in South Harad, ouch, but now with a few challenges, battles and 1 agent action there is only 2000+ SG troops and small army of Harad.

  • RIP’s a Harad’s army commander.
    *QA will take harad’s town at 2635. So only 3 Mt’s in the south now. Wonder if SG will send new recruits here soon via boat?
    *Harad now has 3 armies in North Harad but sees 2 or 3 incoming armies from Mordor.
    *A 3000+ SG army took QA village at 3234 and tried to move across bridge at 3333 but QA was able to take out bridge…that was close. Now what will this expensive force do? Move around river to continue attack on QA (doubt it), move back up road to fight for the east side of river and help North Harad (most likely) or just call it a day and retire all troops (my suggestion :-))
    *Navy battle: Corsairs vs SE. I debated if I wanted to engage this navy or try to get around it and decided it was time to engage. Now wonder who will win.
    *SG sees evil navy at 2429…hehehe, I am coming for you :slight_smile:

–Summary:
*I still think this game is going great for both of us on one field or the other. You control the Market and Mirkwood. I am having fun in Rhun, around Mordor with some success in Harad land and Artifacts I think I am up. You have huge armies coming down on me in Northwest and Black Gate.
