Game 57 Nomads

Just possibly, the fact that we’re all on PalantirNet instead of phone lines?

Apparently dragons enjoy flying low over the heads of pirate fleets and rousting out individual boats with great billowing bursts of flame. Who knew?

Anyway, Uruial had loads of fun and is ready for more. A pity Finarfin won’t be providing him with any.

Bah. A band of children playing an 80’s Atari hobbit game could be beating us these last few turns (well, okay, me…I won’t drag my team down to my level of incompetance).

All in all, a decent amount of gaming left here with an “anything goes” turn 12 layout.

Life could be worse…

… and will be, soon.

Ji Indur,
Fog Lord

Yeah but for who?

The DS ant out of the Woods yet. Its going to get a lot harder for you to take a breath soon…

Yo TonyZ aka Ji Fogdur,
Another DS capital bit the dust last turn.

you guys play the Doritos game with us and it’s just fine. K/A characters and we’ll just make more while we keep destroying your pops…

It’s a classic:
DS do the agent defense
FP keep economy at 1 and whittle away at DS economies by gradually taking a bigger and bigger percent of the pop center base in the game.

I’ll take the FP in the above scenario every time. A dwindling pop center base with a 1 economy is brutal for the DS.

So, show us some stuff and prove how wrong we are. We’ll just keep on making Doritos for you to crunch.

Dave

I suspect that the prospect of glorious southern beachfront property will console many of us Nazgul for the prospect of having to leave cold winter housing.

Only problem about this wraith state is that it’s very hard to get a suntan.

For all the voyeurs, sorry to disappoint, nothing to report today, the scheduled Turn 13 Run date… DS posted a couple sets of orders on the wrong group, we got them, conferred, and decided to notify our opposition of their error in advance of the turn. The turn has thusly been delayed a couple days. Will this allow the FP the opportunity to slaughter their enemy with impunity? No. Will this scar the game irreparably leaving a sour taste in all our mouths upon FP victory? Odds are - nyet. Sigh. 2 more days. All this time, all this turmoil, and we end up meeting and greeting and getting along more than before. Shame, that.

Nice try Brad, but as usual, you are light on the facts (and heavy on the spin). You should pursue a career in politics.

Yes we had a pleasant chat, but that doesn’t change my distaste for how this whole fiasco went down (remember my series of rhetorical questions that raised your hackles in the first place). I’ll not air all your dirty laundry on this forum (nor ours), but that doesn’t mean I won’t tell if asked. (Somebody ask me, please!) As I said at the outset, I didn’t know whose toes I was stepping on, but now I do.

Drew

Sigh. I assure you that your angst is misdirected. My toe pain is sourced in empathy for you and your emotional torment with no resolution. Hackle the fiasco as you see fit, I’d choose a more truthful and empowering version for your own good if I were you, alas, I am not and your suffering is likely to continue, oh woe begotten world…

It’s like this:
Player A on DS posts his 2 nations’ proposed orders & a somewhat detailed request for support from a team-mate to the wrong yahoo group 2 days before due-date.
Player B on the FP reads it and posts the stuff to the game 57 FP web site.
FP team debates what the correct course of action is.
FP team concludes that correct course of action is to notify DS team that we have their orders & communication through no fault or espionage.
FP team notifies DS team asap after this decision is reached, but it’s very late (US time) the eve before the run date and DS team is partly European and already asleep.
DS team doesn’t have time to make appropriate changes and requests GM delay the turn processing 2 additional days.
FP team is fine with this
Now, DS team members cast aspersions at Player B on FP team for looking at the data in the first place and posting it to FP team web site.

That is it as accurately as I can paint it. Based on prior discussions on this BBS, there are quite a degree of differences of opinion regarding what can/should/should-not be done with information about the opposition that is obtained through no action on the part of a team (i.e. it’s sent to them by mistake). If we want to all have the same debate again, then we have fresh grist for the mill. If we don’t, then we can let it go.

But we FP did indeed try to “do the gentlemanly thing” and let the DS know of the leak and are ok with a postponement so that damage can be minimized. Many would say that we had no obligation whatsoever to do anything. Many would say the information shouldn’t have been posted to our team website by our Player B. Our team struck a middle-ground position between the two extremes.

That’s the facts M’am.

Dave

i said we had no obligation to advise the evil side. if its popular or not, is not my concern. oh theres lotsa cliches, parables and such to support many positions. its individual taste. in the end, the team made a decision. maybe can we have another poll on this topic.
you guys think i have no sense of humor. i just dont use the shift key.
but, now this game has some juice, and thats never a bad thing. win or lose, its not gonna be boring.

Sm

Yes, folks, posts it to the website. Not delete it. Not call it to the attention of his “ally” in that other game. (With friends like that…) This is the relevant bit of data in all this fiasco.

You are damn straight about both of the above, too.

Player A made a mistake. We all make mistakes. Some mistakes are worse than others.

Player B tried to convince his team to gain an unsportsmanlike advantage due to A’s mistake. How many of us would do that? (Probably more than I realize, since it took 36 hours of debate on the 57 FP team to decide to tell us…letting us know late the evening prior to turn processing, middle of the night for two of our English teammates.)

This is a GAME people! I know there are those who want to win at all costs, but what price victory?

Striking a rules-lawyer pose, no obligation whatsoever. But what price victory? Would you really want to win a game like that? Hell I wouldn’t!!

Drew, You guys were told within a couple of hours of the beginning of the “debate.” Everyone playing this game has real lives too, and weekends are usually consumed with kids’ soccer, swimming, etc. We didn’t begin our “debate” until late in the day on Sunday (US time) because several of our team had no knowledge of the postings until then.

I can accept your indignation regarding some of the points you raise above. As I said, different people feel differently about it.

As soon as the “debate” occurred, you guys were told. I agree it was late on Sunday and I agree that an extension of the game deadline was the right choice. But don’t make the time you were informed an issue. We told you as soon as we decided. We did not delay. We sought no advantage in the communication of the leak or the timing of it. Frankly, we were trying to reduce unfair advantage. How can you see it otherwise?

Dave

p.s. SM - I loved the lack of humor joke of yours. that was a classic

Steve has no sense of humour, we all know that.

Personally, I think that Player B should really have quit MEPBM altogether. He’s obviously way to stressed out about this whole issue, casting aspersions on the character of others, raining down moral judgements and arguing his point in the face of overwhelming universal ethics proving he’s a lying, scheming and distrustful scoundrel. He should consider that it’s just a game and the price, ohhhh the cost, the human impact, oh the price of tainted victory. Player B might consider calling the papers and telling all, apologizing to his teammates, his ally in the other game, and his ex wife for being such a cad, before jumping off a bridge.

:frowning:

OK fair enough, I retract that part of my rant. I admit I do not know when the infamous Player B forwarded the info to the 57 FP group. All I know is, the Flying Dutchman emails were sent to the wrong list some 36 hours before you guys informed us about it – which in and of itself is no big deal, except for the looming turn deadline. Make no mistake, I applaud your team for making the decision to tell my team. Player B’s “rotten judgment” (I loved the way Laurence put it, eloquent as always) to forward the intercepted info is my beef.

<and with that, I go figure out how to unsubscribe to this thread, so I won’t even get any emails upon further postings…>

Turned out good for you from what I can gather. Good thing you’re not getting any more emails from this thread, else you’ll read I’ve left off the subtlety and finally told y’all to stop cryin’ and move on.

For the voyeurs:

Rhudaur desperate at Mt Gram yet still (damn coin toss…) while Corsairs being removed post haste from their homeland. Enemy assassins are everywhere (how would we know that…?) and the DS are really annoyed at SG. AND, of all things, the market went up. Not looking good for the FP. Wonder which DS orders will come into our hands this turn?

the free

We’ll try and make next turn as interesting for you as this one was.

But I am looking forward to a post-game strategy review from both sides.
